EXCERPT CHAPTER ONE:
Kaspian pondered his eighteen years as he walked through the evening gloom of the London streets. The rain had forced most people inside, creating the impression that the great metropolis had turned into a ghost town. Kaspian liked walking at times like this. It made him feel as if he were walking through his own silent empire.

Then he saw her.

She was standing under the streetlight, a newspaper held out in front of her as if she were reading it. Kaspian thought it obvious that she wasn’t; she was watching the church on the other side of the cobbled street. He stopped midstride and pulled himself behind a tree; spied on her as she took a pocket-watch from her pocket and flip open the lid. He thought it strange she should read it by placing flat in front of her eyes rather than looking down on it – it was as if she were taking a reading from a compass. Kaspian looked over to where she was watching. The church was empty and he couldn’t fathom what could possibly be of interest. The lights were out, the door locked, and the whole place had the impression of sleeping.

The woman was tall and slender; striking in a slightly over-powerful way. Despite wearing a full, black silk skirt, the fitted waistcoat and black necktie were more manish in dress than ladylike. Kaspian had never seen a woman like her, although he had heard of ‘her sort’ as Heartlock’s companions would say.

When he looked closer, he could see she wore a monocle in her left eye and was at least ten years younger than he’d guessed from the first impression: twenty one was the age he now settled on in his mind.

She must have sensed him looking at her because she turned towards him and, seeing him poking out from behind a tree, smiled. It was a strange reaction to the discovery that someone was spying on you. The boldness of her action unsettled Kaspian in a way he couldn’t quite understand. He bent down, pretending that he had been about to tie his shoelaces. When he was sure she had returned to her own secret observations, he scuttled past her and almost ran all the way to the safety of home.

By the time he pushed open the imposing, black front door, Kaspian carried the strangest sense that something deep within him had changed, and things would never be quite as before.

One word completely sums up this book:  Outstanding.  This plot was completely original and amazing well thought up. I could not put it down no matter how hard I tried.  It truly is  unique read, with all the characters having their own story!!  The details of the women coming into their powers are extraordinary! Not to mention the utter uniqueness of the main character herself.  She was exquisite in her darkness.  This book has that old time detective novel feel to it.  I quite enjoyed every aspect of this book and I am fervently hoping the author will write more!!  This book is chalked full of details, so no aspect of it is missed!!  A truly top notch read!!

Review: Releasing the Wolf by Dianna Hardy

Lydia Martin has always had dreams, the weirdest and hottest of them all involving a faceless, muscle-bound man that speaks like sin and smells like sex. Like any sane person, she always put the dreams down to an overactive imagination, coupled with a higher than average libido.

One night, however, instead of their usual, erotic encounters, she finds him in her dream, chained to a wall and screaming in pain. Not only that, but she thinks she recognizes the building he's being held captive in as one that's just a few streets away.

Awaking with an irrepressible need to save her fantasy lover, Lydia decides to humor her dream self and head on over to where she thinks he's imprisoned.

What unfolds is beyond even her wildest imaginings, as she's sucked into a dangerous and deadly world she never knew existed ... and it turns out that the man who inhabits her darkest fantasies, isn't the only one that needs releasing.

My Review:

This was an absolutely yummy read!  Dianna has a dark sense of humor and she uses it frequently to torture her characters.  Can you imagine having a sex dream every single night for ten years???  My libido would not only be on overdrive, but I would probably be out of this world grumpy..lol.  Those dreams have to equal: no sleep, especially as hot as they were!!  So Lydia basically becomes introverted and doesn't become close friends with anyone, to include long term relationships.  How can she be committed to another man when they will always be compared to her dream guy? And they will always come up lacking.

So we have 3 hot wolves in this story, one sweet and sensitive, one sexy as all get-out, and then we have the mystery wolf who doesn't truly have a place in the pack.  This is my kind of alpha male.  He carries his power with natural grace and just has you dying to fall down on your knees and submit..oh yeah..Him?  I want to know more about.  This was a great intro but prepare for the ultimate frustration in cliffhangers!!!!  I'm used to this because Dianna's other series left on the edge and had you counting down the days until the next release!  I can't wait for book 2!!

Giveaway and Release Day Party for Cry of the Wolf by Dianna Hardy

I know it's not Friday yet, but it's party time people!!  Today we are rocking it out in here with Dianna Hardy  celebrating the release of Cry of the Wolf, which is book 2 in an AMAZING paranormal series.  I asked Dianna to tell us a little bit about the story, since it isn't your mate for life kind of deal.  This is what she had to say:

A Different Kind Of Werewolf Story – part I

by Dianna Hardy
www.diannahardy.com

Thanks so much to Close Encounters Of The Night Kind for having me on their blog :)

When I thought of writing a werewolf series, I knew there were some things I couldn’t and shouldn’t change: the myth of the silver bullet, the effect of the moon, the animalistic urges... But I wondered what would happen if I took a very major werewolf trope – loyalty to one mate, and one mate alone – and changed that; turned it on its head. I took a risk, and I’m glad to say that it’s paid off. Readers are intrigued, and, well, quite frankly, so am I!

Lydia is a normal girl living a normal existence, except for her larger-than-life sex-dreams with one man that feels more real to her than any man in real life. So much so, that she’s pretty much given up on relationships altogether.

Then, she meets Taylor … and then she meets Lawrence … and even her dreams are no longer simple. Everything just got three times more complicated – and three times hotter!

What else can you expect from this series? Thunderstorms and lightning, baddies, genetics, lust, thoughts of love, lost love, redemption, cliffhangers – oh, yes – cliffhangers; many twists and turns, a hefty plot, intriguing characters and an uncertain future for our new, favourite pack … because the past has come back to bite them each on their respective arses.

If you were going to change one major aspect of the common werewolf myth, what would it be?

Lydia Martin has always had dreams, the weirdest and hottest of them all involving a faceless, muscle-bound man that speaks like sin and smells like sex. Like any sane person, she always put the dreams down to an overactive imagination, coupled with a higher than average libido.
One night, however, instead of their usual, erotic encounters, she finds him in her dream, chained to a wall and screaming in pain. Not only that, but she thinks she recognises the building he's being held captive in as one that's just a few streets away.
Awaking with an irrepressible need to save her fantasy lover, Lydia decides to humour her dream self and head on over to where she thinks he's imprisoned.
What unfolds is beyond even her wildest imaginings, as she's sucked into a dangerous and deadly world she never knew existed ... and it turns out that the man who inhabits her darkest fantasies, isn't the only one that needs releasing.

Excerpt:

Abruptly, Ryan’s face appeared in her mind, clear as day, just as it had when she’d woken up from her nightmare.

Wow.

He seemed so real.

In her imagination, her eyes traveled the length of him. She was pulled backwards as if behind a camera on a wheeled stand, and she saw he was chained to the ceiling by his arms. His head hung low, those arms stretched upwards, red and blistering … he looked battered. He’d been battered. But even in his brutalised state he looked magnificent, his body like some powerful machine that could blast anything out of its path given half the chance.

Mine, growled a voice in her head. But then, she’d always felt that way about him in her dreams: possessive to a fault. She was pretty sure the therapist would put it down to abandonment issues.

Releasing The Wolf is available as an eBook, and in paperback from Amazon stores:

The full moon is a week away, and although Lydia is as excited as it gets to run as a wolf for the first time, she is also fighting to keep her independence while trying to understand her role in the lives of the three males that have come to rule hers:
compassionate, tender Taylor; impetuous, fun-loving Ryan and distant, cold Lawrence.
There's also a fourth man in Lydia's life. Brendan, her previous "friend with benefits", is tirelessly searching for her. He's about to uncover things that should be kept hidden.
However, the testosterone surrounding her is the last thing she should be worrying about. Her family bear truths about her heritage she's not ready to face ... she may not have a choice, because the greatest danger to them all comes from within. The past never stays buried for long, and among the shadows of their species it is rising with a vengeance, threatening to tear their pack apart for good.

Dianna Hardy is multi-genre author of paranormal things, dark things, poetic things, sexy things, taboo things, and sometimes funny things. She writes about witches, demons and angels.

She is the author of The Witching Pen Novellas, A Silver Kiss (Vampire Poetry) and 'Til Death Do Us Part (an adult retelling of The Little Mermaid).

She pens stories that are fast-paced, action-packed and sexy, and writes both full-length novels and short fiction.

If you have to put her in the genre box, she writes about what you may consider to be "the paranormal", including paranormal romance, dark fantasy, urban fantasy, gothic poetry and occult books.

Although quite active online, Dianna is a self-confessed hermit, preferring the company of nature and animals to the hustle and bustle of people. She loves anything paranormal (she doesn't really consider it "para"), organic food, walking barefoot, the smell of the woods after rain, and summer days.

However, she is also sustained by coffee, chocolate and the occasional vodka.

She lives in the UK with her partner and their daughter, where she devotes her time to parenting, publishing and writing.

Giveaway and Kickoff Party for Shannan Albright's The King's Lady Tour

Happy Hump-day CEWTNK!!  And don't I have the perfect book to kick it off with!  Here today I have the amazing Shannan Albright's finishing touch on a truly hot and unique twist to the Autherian Legend.  I when I say hot?  I mean you practically sizzle your way through this book!!!  Let's take a look at ALL of the books that made this series fabulous!!

Merci Tramaine is not happy to be called back into service by her old boss Arthur, especially when she is charged to find her missing ex-lover. Drake Monroe is Merlin reincarnated. With his powers bound by the Goddess Nimue, he has become a skilled fighter, but is no match for Nimue who kidnapped him, determined to destroy him forever.
The bloodline of Morgan Le Fey taints Merci, keeping her on the edge between light and dark. The goddess’s wicked trap springs shut, leaving both Drake and Merci racing against the clock. Passions ignite once again, but are they too late to plan a future or will they be torn from each other? This time for eternity.

My Review:

This book has a little bit of everything.  Its a unique twist on the Arthurian legend that most romance readers love to get their hands on. What HEA lover wasn't crazy over the legends associated with his knights and their gallantries?  This book is focused on Merlin.  Merlin is reincarnated into this time as Drake, but his powers are bound by the goddess Nimue. All he has are his memories and some wondrous fighting skills. You don't find out why Nimue wants him to suffer, but there really has to be a story behind it.  She acts like a woman scorned and I'm sure a goddess in that frame of mind is a lot scarier than us mere mortals..lol.  Because of Nimue, Drake has relationship issues.  He falls in love with Merci but pushes her away.

Merci is a descendant of Morgan Le Fey, and has inherited her dark magic.  She struggles constantly with keeping her dark magic under wraps, but it has a seductive pull.  Drake breaks it off with her and she leaves Author's services to go out on her own to try and start over.  The story begins with Author seeking her out because Drake is missing.  Merci curses him but agrees to help.  Even though her heart is shattered by his dismissal, she needs to know he is alright.

They are thrust together because of one goddess's vengeance, but may walk away with more than they ever though possible.  This was quite an entertaining twist on the old legend and contains something for everyone!! I really enjoyed this read and hope Shannan continues with the series!!  It was a quick, hot ride!!

Arthur and his Knights are back and ready to kick ass!
What’s worse than a pissed off Knight? Colin Hennessy.
A war is brewing which suits Colin just fine. Shape shifter, Knight and quick tempered Irishman is a volatile combination. Colin remembers vividly his past life as Sir Kay and with it all that he loved and lost.
Juliet Boyd moves among societies rich and pampered, but she holds within her a terrible secret. One Vance Hollister is determined to exploit. Mordred is back in a new skin. Evil has a new name and Vance Hollister plans on bringing the war onto a new battlefield.
Colin and Juliet are unprepared for the flare of attraction that ignites between them from across a moonlit parking lot. Dare she open herself and expose her cursed gift? Can he save Juliet from Vance’s twisted manipulations? Or will he lose his second chance at love? A showdown between good and evil is coming to a head with Juliet and Colin right in the middle.

My Review:

Shannan does it again in this tantalizing sequel to Beloved Wizard.  All of Author's knights have been reincarnated with him (with the exception of Lancelot, he has just lived) but with upgrades :)  They all have some sort of magical ability.  But with the good come the bad and yep Author's son is here to and still out to destroy him.  The playing field is leveled as an influx of new supernaturals join us in this book, with a little side story of a possible M/M romance.  Both of these hot guys seem really surprised by the sudden change in their relationship, but decide to jump on the train and see where it takes them!  This book was face-paced and action-packed from start to finish, not to mention some smoking hot love scenes.  Excellent Read!!!

Arthur Penner is more than happy to aid a lady in need of help, especially if the woman is targeted by his nemesis Vance Hollister. The fact the lady in question turns out to be not only a powerful witch, but a gorgeous red head with a wealth of curves that don’t quit? Even better.
What he isn’t prepared for is the discovery that the woman just happens to be his reincarnated Queen Gwenivere, and worse, she has no memory of who he is.

His well-ordered life is crumbling around him as yet another surprise turns up in the form of his reincarnated sister. It seems the past is swallowing him whole, forcing him to let go of previous betrayals and trust once more.

Gwen McAllister finds herself between a rock and a hard spot. Drawn to the quiet strength and confidence of Arthur. It isn’t until her memories are savagely restored by a vengeful goddess that she realizes who she is and the bitter betrayal she caused. Even her familiar, a mouthy Himalayan named Salt seems to be against her, demanding she trust the very man she destroyed with her life.

A new threat is rising, one which will plunge the world they know into darkness. To defeat an old enemy they must depend on each other and learn to forgive. A tall order and time is running out. Can they let go of the past and embrace the promise of a future or will they lose everything in the ultimate battle between good and evil?
My Review:

Smashing!!  Shannan takes the build-up from the other 2 books and brilliantly climaxes everything in the last installment!  Imagine, if you can, being saved by a bunch of people who truly hate you and you have no idea why. Gwen kept to herself, with only her aunt and her familiar as company. So when the walking embodiment of Satan comes knocking on her door, she prepares to defend herself as only a witch can.  Only to be rescued by another group of strangers that then proceed to kidnap her, for her protection.  Talk about your bad days!  To make matters worse, Vivianne decides that her memories need to be unlocked all at once, so decades of guilt and shame come crashing down on her.  What woman would want to remember that she was the cause of the fall of Camelot?

I loved this story for many reasons.  First and foremost?  It was incredibly HOT.  The action in this book is sure to leave you hot and bothered.  But the story line is gripping.  It forces you to take another look at the possibilities of what Gwen might have gone through all those decades ago.  It a spin that will make you think, which of course delighted me to no end.  The possibility of a story behind so many?  This was a worthwhile finish to a great series.  The ending was absolutely perfect.  Hats off to you Shannan for creating this unique and thrilling series!!  Excellent Read!

I love to write the kind of stories that will keep you up late at night and make your heart pound. It’s my goal in writing to make each new book better, more exciting, more action-packed, not only to test myself as a writer but to keep thrilling you. I’m always trying to push the boundaries with my imagination, and yours, to create something new and different.

If you’re a fan of paranormal romance novels then you’ll love my Bellum Sisters Trilogy. This isn’t your typical romance story, so be prepared for a kick of heat and tons of action. The Bellum Sisters Trilogy has received excellent reviews from paranormal bloggers and two of the three books are Top Picks from Night Owl Reviews.

Now, if you like shorter books with quite a bit of heat, humor, and action then I’d recommend the Kategan Alphas series. This erotic series features the sexy Kategan family and all the lucky men and women who get to meet them and complete their lives.

Excerpt

 “How could you?”

It took even less time than she would have expected to see regret flash across his face. That alone made her flinch like she’d taken a punch to the gut. His head jerked towards the front of the house at the sound of high heels coming their way.

“You know how I feel, Felicity. God damn it!” As if that made any of this better. As if that erased her shame or changed anything.

He pulled his pants up and with a little adjusting managed to make his suit look neatly pressed as if he’d just put it on. Even his hair looked freshly combed and smooth, not a single hair out of place. She had no doubt how she looked though—like she’d just been fucked against a door.

He knew where this would lead them, how this would hurt her. Yet he did it anyway, he touched her. A tear she couldn’t contain slid down her cheek. He wiped it away with his thumb, his face softening.

“Don’t cry, sweets.”

She couldn’t stand the endearment. Not now, not when her whole heart was breaking.
The footsteps came closer for which she thanked the stars. It helped her to get her bearings and move, no easy feat after feeling him inside her body for the first time.

“Don’t ever touch me again,” she said, not meeting his eyes. She meant it and she knew he heard the conviction in her voice. He’d never touch her again after that. She was done.

Quickly, she slipped in the garage door. She knew she should flee but some sickness inside her made her pause outside the door. She stayed silent and listened.

“Ah, there you are. I didn’t know if you were here yet,” a warm, feminine voice said.

“Julianna, it’s good to see you.” She could hear the smile in Dom’s voice and knew it was forced. The sound of kissing was like a lethal blow to her heart. She staggered back a step as her heart stopped beating for one agonizing moment. She’d bet money that Julianna didn’t know that his smile was forced, the kiss not real.
She probably didn’t know anything about him and, if she did, it didn’t matter because no one loved Dom like she did. No one. Not even his Julianna, the woman he was to mate with—his bruid.

Another tear slid down her cheek. She wanted to sob but first she had to escape. She could never be around Dom again; no matter how much she loved him or what he promised. Yet, a part of her knew the thought was fruitless. He would never leave her alone now. He’d find her. He wouldn’t give up on her. It was in his nature.

But he didn’t love her.

And he was mating with another woman.

AHH!!  What a tangled web we weave!!  I've enjoyed another on of T.A.'s fabulous books.  This girl knows how to write a flawed alpha male who steals your heart every time!!  Dom and Felicity are truly opposite and met under the worst of circumstances, considering Dom is promised to another.  But yet the sparks fly!!  Neither one can resist each other and lies start piling up.  Is there a chance for true love to win?

If you have read a TA book, then you know the answer to that question.  This was a great read, filled with lots of twists and turns throughout the story.  You definitely stumble through an array of emotions throughout the read, especially surrounding Dom. You love him...you hate him...you want to slap him...then you just flat out WANT him...lol.  I throughly enjoyed the read and can't wait for more from this author!!

Review: Prophecy of the Flame by Lynn Hardy

In a blinding flash of light, five nondescript strangers are yanked from this world and thrust into a land of sorcery. Transformed into the characters they were pretending to be; Archmage Reba, Jamison the healer, Jerik the dwarf, Charles the prince charming, and Allinon the druid elf blend twentieth century technology with the supernatural powers of this new world.

This band of wannabe heroes soon discovers that having the powers you have always dreamed of, does not make life a dream come true. The Crusaders of the Light struggle to form a cohesive band as they fight to liberate the kingdom of Cuthburan from the evil horde threatening humanity.

For those who believe the struggle of love adds a greater depth to any story, the romantic thread in Book One is explored in greater depth in this version.

Battle is also waged within Reba, an ordinary housewife who has become the most powerful mage on the planet, as she struggles to remain true to her wedding vows. Drawn against her will to the arms of Prince Alexandros, Reba must choose between the prophesied marriage to a handsome prince in a magical world or returning to the husband she left behind.

Imagine if you will, your husband buying you a vacation at a role playing themed hotel.  It sounds awesome right?  LOL...if you are into role playing.  It's hard to explain to your love that playing video games and actual live role playing are two different things.  But the thought was sweet and there was always next weekend to sleep in.  So off they went to enjoy.  Rebecca was almost late for role call and was introduced to her team mates.  They were split into groups of five, with no time to spend getting to know each other because, yep you guessed it, Rebecca's group was up first.  So as they prepare for a mock battle with tin foil swords, the game master announces that no magic can be used.  Well that's just peachy.  Rebecca's character was a mage.  She had spent all of time writing spells instead of developing her character.  So as they are engaging a group of gremlins in their first mock battle, something strange occurs.  Rebecca is blinded by a bright light and suddenly winds up inside of her character...literally.  As she looks around, she realizes that all of her teammates have become their characters, and wherever they were, it wasn't where they were a few minutes ago.

So you take a bunch of earthlings, give them unimaginable powers, and drop them in a medieval version of earth and you get the makings of a completely amazing adventure.  I loved it!!  Rebecca or Reba, as she is called in the other dimension is by far my favorite character.  She is strong-willed and mouthy and quite good with rhymes.  She also has a good heart and loves children.  This particular dimension that they had been summoned to was under attack by a fierce demon hoard.  It was revealed to their mage that these five would bring about the turning point in the war.  Not to sure, which turning point, but a turning point none the less.  So you travel through this foreign land with our group of really unlikely heroes, as they bumble their way through their new found powers.  This book was one I couldn't put down.  The descriptions are so realistic, you can actually picture yourself immersed in the colors and scenery.  The writing flowed and the story line kept you completely sucked in until it was over and then the disappointment spit you out.  I will be getting the next book because I have to know what happens!!  Great series!!  It has my highest rating!!
