Giveaway and Interview with author N.R. Allen and her book Blood of the Revenant

Good morning my little Naughties!!!  I have a special treat for you today!!  With me is my special guest N.R. Allen, and she is going to be giving us some insight, not only about the book, but herself as well!!  Take it away N.R:

How old were you when you first realized you wanted to write? Five. I've been coming up with stories for as long as I can remember. As soon as I was able to put words on a page, I knew this was what I wanted to do.

Tell us a little bit about the book. The book is a mix of dark fantasy and adventure with a hint of romance and a bit of horror as well. As Gabriel discovers more about himself and his mysterious past he uncovers the lies of the world that surround him. While he struggles to hang onto the very people he's always fought to protect, he starts to see everything crumble around him. He quickly goes from being strong to being hunted. In the novel, he is torn between two women. One has always hated him and the other tells him everything he wants to hear. But as his world changes and he learns the truth, can he trust any of them?

What made you choose this genre? It just seemed to fit. I developed the story first and pulled in elements of other genres that worked. The story really somewhat developed itself. The more I fleshed it out, the more it grew and expanded. 

Most authors have an unusual story or way that they come up with their ideas for books…Do you have one? I usually get steamrolled by my ideas at 3 a.m. Some image will get stuck in my head. I keep thinking and thinking on it. Then it grows into a novel.

What was your biggest influence that steered you towards writing? Feeling isolated. As a child, I was painfully shy. I loved to crawl inside of books and into other characters and be them for awhile. After I really got a handle on writing, I saw how much fun it was to create worlds and see how someone else reacted to them.

Do you see yourself writing in another genre? Definitely. I love to mix genres. However, almost everything I write usually has some tension or horror in it.

Are any of your characters reflective of you? There's a little bit of me in every character I write. It helps me keep in touch with them and make them believable.

Gabriel has never questioned things before. He knows that because he is a revenant like everyone else, he has to fight the not-family and hurt them to keep his own family safe. He has never questioned that the sky is always dark or that hungry things watch him from the forest.

But in Returning City, everyone has secrets.

Gabriel grew up believing that he was the same as everyone else. But now, things are changing. He begins to see strange, monstrous creatures instead of the people he has always known. Struggling to protect his family, Gabriel must turn to a mysterious stranger, but is she only helping him for her own dark purposes?

In order to survive, Gabriel has to become more than he has ever been, and he will have to go against all he has ever known. Soon Gabriel will realize that something dangerous waits for him—his past—and that past holds a secret deadlier than anything he could ever imagine.
