Giveaway and Interview with Ivy Bateman and her new book The Fifth Story

Happy Hump Day Everyone!!  And what a great way to celebrate Hump day then with a naughty author and her yummy works!!  I was able to snatch up Ivy Bateman and delve into her head for a little pickin.  This is what she had to say when faced with THE RACK:

Hello and Welcome to The RACK! I’m so happy to have you here visiting and sharing your newest work.

Well, thank-you my dear, it's lovely to be here. Your dungeon is so cozy...for a dungeon...except for the spiders...they've really got to go. And that noise... am I hearing things?

Don’t mind the noise from the prison… err guests, they get noisy during their…treatments..lol.

Oh yes of course! Silly me. Ah yes...I recognize those noises now. I do enjoy sounds of pleasure along with the rattling of chains.

Let me clear a spot so you can have a seat. Would you like some refreshments before you get started?

Are you sure you've gotten ALL of the spiders out of here? No... You missed one...that rather large...ok excellent you got it. Lovely. Yes, I'd love a drink. Something strong, hard and on ice will do nicely. Perfect! Thank-you! You are quite the hostess. So the interview shall we?

So I have to ask…Why did you choose to write about paranormal?

Well, honestly, for me writing paranormal is just easier. When you ground a story in reality you have to stick to the rules of the real world. But with paranormal, you can bend reality to fit your story however you like. The rules on our plane of existence don't always have to come into play. Plus, I find a lot of fun in veering a story off into the weird or slightly odd.

Tell us a little bit about your book.

My latest release from Breathless Press is called The Fifth Story. It's a paranormal erotic adventure about a girl named Bryn who gets lured into the world of her own stories by the cunning and seductive Darkness. The only way she will be able to leave is if she successfully carries out a mission for Darkness. This means that Bryn has to walk into her stories, mingle with her characters and shake things up to get things done. If she'd know she'd have to meet her characters, she would have made some of them a lot nicer and her stories more pleasant to be in.

What first sparked the book idea?

NaNoWriMo! Back in 2010, friends of mine encouraged me to participate in the month of writing frenzy. (National Novel Writing Month) The idea came to me slowly and with the aid of a few stories I'd started, but had never finished. I'd wanted to do something with these fragmented tales so when the idea of a character having to wander around in them, even if they weren't complete, came to me, I felt fairly confident I'd be able to write a novel.

What is the key element in your character creation?

Bryn is a bit of a lost soul. I can't exactly say why...it would give too much away, but the mission that she is sent on helps her to go from someone who has lost their place in the world to someone who knows they still want to be a part of the world.

Who is the character that in your opinion everyone is going to fall in love with?

Hmmm....that's a tough one. Coran is wise and noble, Darkness is shady and yet seductive and Darius, my deliciously evil space vampire is sexy and dangerous. My guess would be one of those three. I love all of them. If anyone would like to turn this into a movie, I'd like to request Darius be played by Christian Bale. sigh....

I have to ask, what are the hardest scenes for you to write?

Any scenes with violence I have a really hard time writing. I'm extremely squeamish. If I'm watching something bloody, I'll hide behind a pillow. If I'm reading something violently descriptive I will gloss over it. My imagination if far too vivid and I'm easily disturbed. But if my story requires a bit of violence...I squint my eyes and write what needs to be written to further the story.

How would you rate the sex scenes throughout the book?

Well...as the story progresses, so does the intensity of the steamy scenes. I'd say they go from fairly arousing to quite erotic. Something for everyone!

Are there any of these in your books?  (Hands one of the toy boxes on the right which is filled with sex toys, whips, body creams, lotions, lubs…and whatever else you can imagine J)

Let's take a looksee...well there's a bondage table or two and some chains. Look at all the goodies you have here! I could have done so much more...next time! :)

Do you see yourself writing anymore stories in this series or a spin-off?

My goal with this book is to finish the stories within the story. Three of the stories Bryn enters I'd started writing, but had never finished. The first story Bryn enters is a folk tale about a fisherman and his wife and in February, 2011, I wrote a short story about these characters. I entered it into a writing contest in my province and it received an honorary mention. I'm very proud of it. I would really like it if one day I had four companion stories to go with The Fifth Story.

Are any of your characters reflective of you?

Honestly, not really. Except for the fact that Bryn is scared of heights and so am I. That's pretty much it!

Tell us about some up and coming books.

Well, my next book is called "Baby, You're Cold Inside" and it's a paranormal Christmas story loosely based on A Christmas Carol. The lead character, Lily Sinclair, is the head of a major company and not exactly the nicest person around. One night she's taken for a walk down memory lane to see if there is any spark of kindness lurking in her cold shell.

Will any of your characters from this series cameo in other future books?

If I create the stories within the stories, for sure yes. It's just a matter of getting my butt in gear and doing it!

Where can we find you for future updates?

Right here! Links to all things that make me social on the web and where you can buy The Fifth Story.

You can also buy my book(s) on Amazon, All Romance Ebooks and on many more sites.
Any future touring in the works?

Yes I do. I've had a lot of fun promoting The Fifth Story and I'll be continuing with on a few more sites and a blog hop. If you'd like to see where else I've been promoting, you can find that info on my blog.

Oct. 26-Oct 28/12

I’m so happy you have made this a stop. Would you like a tour of the..err…levels?  J I can introduce you to the “guests”, if you just hand me that box back.

Would I ever! I was hoping you'd ask. If you could refresh this hard drink that would be lovely, but this time, could you put some extra ice in it? Ice may come in handy with my vict—I mean new friend. That's perfect, and now add a side of silk scarves, a paddle and oh...that cat-o-nine tales will do.
Now for me, I'll skip the adornment, but pass me that corset top would you? And if you could give me a hand with those lovely fishnets...excellent. The mini is a must and the spike heel boots. Yes, that is perfect.
Hmmm...a blindfold for my new dark brunette friend, a hot human will do, and if you could have him ready and waiting on the rack, with a few candles lit, I'll be along shortly. Actually, if you could just find my husband...he's probably down here somewhere, it's our anniversary today and I think this would be very spicy way to celebrate.
Before I go off and have a little fun, I'd like to introduce everyone to my blurb and an excerpt. I'd also like to thank you very much Nikki for having me in your dungeon today. It's been most enjoyable.
Thanks everyone,
Ivy Bateman

Blurb for The Fifth Story By Ivy Bateman
Every day we encounter doors. Some of these doors are open to us and some of them are closed, but when we pass through any door, a different truth or mystery lies beyond the threshold.
The night Bryn is pulled into a world of her own stories by a shadowy being, her reality is changed forever. Souls and danger, hauntingly beautiful witches, sexy and dangerous vampires, a soldier with a dying wish; she knows that each door leads to a story and to outcomes she can't control, but in order to return home, Bryn must complete a set of tasks for the enigmatic and strangely sensual Darkness.
With four stories to enter, four items to retrieve, Bryn takes part in plot points so out of character that she almost loses herself in the tales she's written. More than once she questions her sanity and curses herself for creating such perilous realities, but she always remains focused on her goal; the creation of the fifth story.
Excerpt from The Fifth Story By Ivy Bateman
As Darius bit her neck and started to drink her blood, she let out another stream of demented laughter and let her mind slip a little more into madness. Besides, how was she supposed to be sane when, in reality, her current situation was ludicrous? She was actually being bitten by a vampire. She had written about space vampires with long fangs and a hunger for blood, and now she was actually experiencing it. It would make any rational person notice that the line between insanity and clarity was extremely blurred. At this point she could do nothing else, but find madness enjoyable.
However, her laughter drained out of her as her life ran out of her body and into Darius' mouth. She felt lightheaded, as if she was being separated from herself, but surprisingly it wasn't an unpleasant feeling at all. She let out a noise of deep approval and held on tighter to Darius. She started to giggle again, but was stopped short when he purposely dragged his fingers along her side. She felt the skin rise and sting. She felt her blood pool on the surface of the cuts. Instead of begging him to stop, she cried out for more. Maybe she really was crazy.
Darius pulled his mouth off her neck. He licked the holes in her throat, sealing them shut. He pushed her face away with his hand and looked her with still-hungry eyes. She grabbed his hand and bit him—her teeth couldn't pierce his hard skin, but he seemed to enjoy the sensation.
He smiled at her, his fangs and lips were still coated in her blood. She wet her lips and moaned. She leaned forward and slowly licked her blood off his full, sensual lips. She licked at his fangs, cleaning them until they were white again. He was warm with her life in his veins. He released her from his grasp and looked down at the hand he had used to cut her. Traces of her blood decorated his long fingers. He grabbed at her face, wiping his hand clean on her pale skin. Then he grabbed her again and turned her toward the other vampire who had remained to watch the intriguing scene unfold.
"It's Malcolm's turn," Darius whispered in her ear and held her tight against his chest while Malcolm knelt down in front of Bryn.

The blurb and excerpt are wonderful. Great interview. Love the fact that the book idea was sparked by having a character wonder around in fragmented tales- will make it interesting to say the least!
