Hello and Welcome to The
Dungeon! I’m so happy to have you here
visiting and sharing your newest work.
Don’t mind the noise from the prison… err guests, they get noisy during
their…treatments..lol. Let me clear a
spot so you can have a seat. Would you
like some refreshments before you get started?
So
I have to ask…Why paranormal romance ?
I believe in magic and have always
wanted special powers. I used to day dream that the world was so much more
interesting than it really is, that people had the ability to wield magic and
shapeshift. With books, I need a
happy ending. Books are my escape from whatever is stressing me out, so a happy
ending is imperative. It was natural to gravitate toward paranormal romance for
me J
Tell
us a little bit about your book.
Throughout history, myths and legends of
extraordinary creatures have been told and retold. Fantastic tales of demons
and banshees, gryphons and dragons, and of course, magic. Stories that every
child grows to learn are nothing more than fantasy…or are they?
Beyond the world you see lies a hidden realm, the
Mythrian Realm, inhabited by all of the creatures you’ve been told are mere
fiction. Only one thing lies between humans and the truth: the Nexus. A magical
barrier erected millennia ago to separate the two realms, it has stood the test
of time. Until now.
For Mythrian Sha Phoenix, magic is nothing new. But
when she stumbles upon a portal on the verge of collapse, her fate will forever
change. Pulled through the portal into the Human Realm, she lands in the middle
of Detective Connor Flynn’s brutal murder scene. Soon it is obvious someone is
using blood magic to try to bring down the Nexus. Together, Connor and Sha must
work to unravel the secrets before the barrier falls and the realms collide.
The Nexus is breaking and all hell is about to
unleash…literally.
What
first sparked the series idea?
Honestly, I’m not entirely sure. My
sister drilled into me a love of fantasy and mythology, and I’ve always wished
my every day life included magic and mayhem. I think it just sort of morphed
into the story I created. I knew it would be a series, because my characters
began to take on a life of their own and several demanded their own books. The
Mythrian Realm series will have sub-trilogies within it as well. Breaking the Nexus is the first in the
Phoenix Trilogy.
What
is the key element in your character creation?
I need my characters to have
something special about them, be it a special power or character trait. I use
that to build off of it and create the rest of the character backstory as I
write. I don’t ever start a story with a full backstory. As it reveals itself
to the reader, that’s how I learn it.
Who is the character that in your opinion everyone is going to fall in love with?
I have to ask, what are
the hardest scenes for you to write?
The sex scenes. I had never written a sex scene before and I was so
apprehensive about it. It ended up not being that bad, but it took me forever
to write it. For the longest time I had a page acting as a place holder that
just said something like “INSERT SEX SCENE HERE” lol.
How would you rate the
sex scenes throughout the series?
I tried to make them hot and pretty graphic without being pornographic if
that makes sense. I want the sex to add to the stories, rather than being a
major focus. First and foremost, my series is a paranormal romance instead of
erotica. That being said, who doesn’t love hot, steamy sex?
Are there any of these
in your books? (Hands one of the toy
boxes on the right which is filled with sex toys, whips, body creams, lotions,
lubs…and whatever else you can imagine J)
At this time no, but sense I do love some good toys, that’s not to say I
won’t end up using them in the future ;)
Do you see yourself
writing anymore stories in this series or a spin-off?
Oh yes, most definitely. Breaking the Nexus is the first in a trilogy featuring Sha and Connor. I had originally planned on featuring them in a stand alone book, but their story morphed into something epic. When this arc is complete, I’ll start a new book in the Mythrian Realm featuring a new lead couple, but Sha and Connor will definitely make an appearance. Whether this new book will morph into a story arc remains to be seen. I have at least three characters in mind for getting their own stories.

Are any of your characters reflective of you?
Without a doubt. I based a number of Sha’s character traits on my own,
because it was the best way to make her the most real. I can be pretty
sarcastic but she tops me by far. I’m also a very impulsive person, and I think
I did a good job of bringing that into her character. Although she’s a bad ass,
she’s impulsive and it can land her into hot water more than once. It also
drives Connor insane which is fun. Connor was based on my husband J
Tell us about some up
and coming books.
I ended Breaking the Nexus on a cliff hanger of
sorts and the next book, Waking the
Phoenix, picks up directly where Breaking
left off. I can’t tell too much without giving away spoilers, but where Breaking took place primarily in Denver
in the Human Realm, Waking the Phoenix
will be set primarily in Mythria. Will any of your characters from this series cameo in other future books?

I am a wife, a programmer, and now an author. I have an adorable mini
Schnauzer and more books than I have room for. I love reading romance because
no matter what may be happening in my life, I can always count on my books to
end happily ever after. The day I met my husband was the day I truly began
believing in happily ever after. After hearing me complain a few too many times
that I had “nothing” to read despite the hundreds of paperbacks scattered
around the house, my husband began suggesting I write my own stories. When I
finally took his advice I discovered that although I enjoy my day job as a
software engineer, my true calling is to be an author.
My sister drilled into me an appreciation for fantasy and mythology,
something I try to bring to my books. My debut novel, Breaking the Nexus started as a book written for NaNoWriMo and has
grown to so much more. It was the conduit that introduced me to a fantastic
group of independent authors who have changed my life in unimaginable ways.
When I’m not writing, I’ve found a passion for blogging and
interviewing fellow authors. I also love reading (of course!), baking, crochet,
sewing sock monkeys, playing video games, and all sorts of random crafts. I
have an incurable love of rubber duckies and stuffed animals, and I believe
nobody should have to grow up if they don’t want.

Thanks for the contest. Your book looks really interesting and I am adding it to my TBR pile.

I like that the sex scenes were hard to write. I feel a lot of authors ut them in simply because they feel it is a requirement, not because they really feel it and when that happens I usually end up skipping the scene or being disappointed with the writer.
Thank you for sharing and thank you for the giveaway.
