Giveaway and Guest Post for the Dirty 30 blog tour...lol...with R.M. Gilmore

Life as a novelty

nov•el•ty  /ˈnävəltē/ (Noun) 1. The quality of being new, original, or unusual. 2. A new or unfamiliar thing or experience.
The ability to kill a liter of whiskey in an evening was not a born trait – it took years to perfect that talent. The desire – well – that I came by naturally. Not giving a shit came in handy.
Knowing there are people who genuinely dislike me makes my cold little heart flitter with joy. Because, in the statistics of me, there are an exact equal amount of people who’d let me jiggle their boobs if I asked. (In other words, ‘They like me! They really like me!’)
Growing up with the understanding that anything I did would somehow, in some way, piss someone off eventually gave rise to my standing as an unconventional adult. My mom tells stories about the expression on my face when I was born (30 effing years ago!) “You looked at the room full of people with your huge eyes, blinked, and wrinkled your eyebrows like we were all idiots.” She says the same about the day I turned sixteen.
Being unconventional is different for everyone – it’s all about perspective. For me, I just wanted to be me – not for anyone or anything. So I did it. I refused to fall in line, to be one thing specifically, but to be as many different ‘things’ as I could fit into my life. Turning your back on social stigma and stereotypes can be isolating. However, there is always that other half of humanity that sees one for their differences, embraces those that choose to listen to their own drummer, and love the shit out of them. I call those people friends. You don’t want to know what I call the other half. I’ll give you three guesses.
Once, when I was in my early twenties, during a conversation about my dating life and the direction it always lead, my brother explained to me why guys glommed on to me when we first met only to flake off after a month or so – I am a novelty. My little brother in all his insight explained that as a novelty I was shiny and new and like nothing they’d seen before. A new toy that would drink them under the table, laugh at their farts, quote Godfather – a buddy with tits. Win, win right? Apparently, guys don’t really know what they want – who’da thunk? A girl who can change their tire wearing stilettos while giving the finger to the jerk-offs across the street is awesome for a while – until they realize her ‘swinging-set’ is bigger than theirs. Never out-guy your ol’ man – just saying.
From that day on I embraced my novelty-ness. What else could I do? Change? Screw that! Behaving in a way that pleases others just for the sake of being accepted goes against everything I’m made of. So, here I am. A thirty-year-old novelty. In twenty years….I’ll be a novelty cougar – rarrrrrrr!
Quirks and jerks are what make this craptastic world go ‘round. I’m proud to be both.
Cheers!

Hello and Welcome to The Dungeon!  I’m so happy to have you here visiting and sharing your newest work.  Don’t mind the noise from the prison… err guests, they get noisy during their…treatments..lol. Let me clear a spot so you can have a seat.  Would you like some refreshments before you get started? Whiskey would be lovely.

Tell us a little bit about your new work. The Dylan Hart series is the most well-known of my stuff. Mostly I write mystery/thrillers with a paranormal twist. I like smart asses and hate romance. The most recent release was Endless Night (Dylan Hart book 2) at the beginning of the year. As of right now Dylan-ites are chomping at the bit to get their grubby little hands on Sacrifice (book 3) but I’m taking my sweet ass time. It’ll be out soon.

What first sparked the series idea? I was drunk.

Who is the character that in your opinion everyone is going to fall in love with? As of right now Dylan Hart gets a lot of play – I don’t see that changing. She’s a bitch but pretty easy to love I guess. She’s relatable for the rest of us non-sparkly non-bimbo broads who prefer beer and jeans over wooing and wine. The only character comparable gets more face time in book three and might end up being pretty popular - Dylan’s mom. Two words – fat Roseanne.

I have to ask, what are the hardest scenes for you to write? I’ve been asked this before and each time I have to answer with sex scenes. I don’t do romance – reading or writing – so it’s so hard for me to take it seriously enough to actually write a full blown sex scene. My face gets red and I feel like a jack ass trying to think of synonyms for words like vagina and penetrate. I tend to stick with those words in the end and it just doesn’t work.

How would you rate the sex scenes throughout the series? Ha! How funny – are negative numbers an option? Sexual tension is more like it – and the occasional thwarted encounter by way of ex-boyfriends and vomit. If you’re looking for sex Dylan’s not your girl. If you want inappropriately timed quips and serious ass beatings you’ve come to the right place. Oh, there’s hunks in there too. They just tend to be the recipients of the aforementioned.

Are there any of these in your books?  (Hands one of the toy boxes on the right which is filled with sex toys, whips, body creams, lotions, lubs…and whatever else you can imagine J) Not yet, but coming to a Dylan Hart book near you I will need to borrow an orange gag ball no questions asked.

How many books do you see in this series? I have six plotted out in my head. This is actually the first time this info has been announced so feel lucky. The covers will continue to feature the stark white face and central focus on the mouth – the color will continue to change with each book. I’m looking forward to the end of it all when they’re all out – it’ll be a hoot.

Are any of your characters reflective of you? Anyone who knows me in the least will tell you I am a living breathing Dylan Hart. It’s pretty easy to write first person when your POV is you.

Tell us about some of your other works. Aside from the Dylan Hart series I have a YA paranormal novella series set in Arkansas – Lynnie Russell trilogy. Lots of stuff in the works – I have literary ADD – short stories coming to the website for FREE and more coming 2014.

I’m so happy you have made this a stop.  Would you like a tour of the…err…levels?  J I can introduce you to the “guests”, if you just hand me that box back. But…I wanna keep it.

Let’s get you suited up:
Wine, mixed drink, or straight up? Straight. No training wheels here.
Leather straps or chains? I like things that buckle.
Cat-o-nine, braided leather, or chain length whip? Collar and Leash or Adornment? Braided leather.
Leather studded bodysuit or corset top? Corset, no question.

Fishnets or garter-belt? Fishnets.

Leather pants, mini, or a long skirt slitted up both sides? Jeans aren’t an option?

Lace up boots (with or without heels) or come F*** me high heels? Boots heels or no I’m not picky.
Ball gag, manacles, or blindfold? Well, since you mentioned the ball gag…
The rack or the whipping post? Rack it up!
Candle wax or clamps? Wax.
Blonde, red-head, Brunette, or Supernatural J? Supernatural is always a possibility – but at home I have a blondie and he goes above and beyond his manly duties. If it’s not broke don’t fix it, eh? ;)

Oh yes!!  I so agree!!!  While I take this lovely lady strolling, let's take a look at her book!

Irreverent twenty-something, Dylan Hart, has her little black heart set to cashing-in on the blood-drained bodies of seven prostitutes scattered throughout southern California.
In search of the culprit of the media-dubbed Vampire Massacres, journalist Dylan Hart dives head first into L.A.’s sanguinary ‘vampire’ subculture, in an attempt to write her first best-selling novel and pay off her ever growing student debt.
Not your daughter’s vampire story, THE SCENE escorts readers into an all too real sanguinarian lifestyle and drags them through a bloody good mystery. Horrible pun intended.

I laughed my a** off reading this book!  The authors personality and humor are peppered throughout this book, which was a complete joy to me.  I love sarcastic wit, and the conversations Dylan constantly has in her head so remind me of me!!!!  I found this book to be an utter delight and look forward to reading more from this author.  Lovers of snark will get an extreme kick out of this book.  I cannot wait to dive into book 2!!!

The Books
The Scene (Dylan Hart #1)
Irreverent twenty-something, Dylan Hart, has her little black heart set to cash-in on the blood-drained bodies of seven prostitutes scattered throughout southern California.
In search of the culprit of the media-dubbed Vampire Massacres, journalist Dylan Hart dives head first into L.A.’s sanguinary ‘vampire’ subculture, in an attempt to write her first best-selling novel and pay off her ever growing student debt.

Dylan drinks whiskey, smokes like a chimney, and possesses a mouth she wouldn’t kiss her mama with and with the aid of her statuesque hetero-life-mate Tatum Price, Dylan takes the case head-on, slicing her way through the absurd, the ethereal and the deadly serious, of the underground ‘vampire’ community. But lies and skepticism keep Dylan from the facts hidden within fiction and the danger lurking right under her nose. It’s all shits and giggles until a dead body pops up at your back door.

Endless Night (Dylan Hart #2)
The bitch is back in this second installment of the Dylan Hart Odyssey of the Occult series. The irreverent Dylan Hart, once again, graces us with her presence, this time from down in New Orleans. She has drug along her band of misfit vampires, but this time blood drinkers are the least of her worries. Dylan finds herself entangled in the underground world of blood and lust when she encounters a new, and much more frightening, villain. Voodoo. Who do?

Sacrifice (Dylan Hart #3)
-------> COMING SOON!!! <-------
Dylan has found herself in quite the conundrum...oh shit, who are we kidding?
She's ass deep in death and it's knocking down her door. Literally.
Endless Night left you with your heart pounding and your stomach in your butt...book three will flip you upside down and take you on a ride that'll leave your knees quivering and your head lying on the floor...literally.

Becoming (Lynnie Russell #1)
"I'm Sharlene Carolynn Diamond Russell, but most folks around Havana call me Lynnie. I want to tell you about the day a chance encounter changed my life forever. From a few sweet smooches to gut churning transformations, this is the story of the events that led to my Becoming."
Country girl paranormal novella from author R.M. Gilmore (author of the Dylan Hart Odyssey of The Occult series). A new twist on an old classic. Havana, Arkansas isn't exactly the picture of mystics and magic, but Lynnie Russell learns quickly you can't judge a book by it's cover. She discovers myths and legends are alive and well in her tiny little town and she is at the center of it.
