Thanks so much for the inviting me to join in the Halloween fun!
I've always loved October for so many reasons, not just for the candy. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, I guess you'd call it a 'gateway holiday' into the end of the year and all the festivities that follow.

It might not seem weird that I Halloween so much, considering I love to write paranormal stories with a dark edge. But people look at my work and shake their head when I confess I never learned to appreciate horror movies or haunted houses. That is until I got in on the fun of creating them (the haunted houses, not the movies):

I'd been part of a community theater group for about a year when one of the directors (a real character himself) got access to an abandoned house just outside of town. Everyone already wondered if it was haunted and for a fundraiser we made it the scariest place on earth. I can't tell you all our secrets, but it took weeks of planning, labor and our abundance of creativity to pull it together.

When it was done, brave guests entered at the front door, toured two stories of the altered-for-maximum-fright interior and then made their escape out the back. After a maze and rooms filled with plenty of terrifying surprises, guests were led upstairs where the coolest shadowbox effect was waiting for them. A spotlight would flash on and yours truly would scream and flinch away from a Freddy Kruger attack. The guests would jump and try to get out of his reach too. Thanks to the shadowbox illusion when they moved and we switched the lights, the guest were actually closer to our Freddy Kruger. Bwahaha! Theatrical evil genius, I'm telling you. Freddy would lunge out and chase them into the next room.

That's one of my favorite October memories, we had so much fun. And as a bonus I learned all the possible phrases guys would use to impress their girls. Of course even the bravest broke down when they survived the house, only to be chased out of the back yard (converted to a cemetery) with a chainsaw (bladeless for safety, of course) but many a person lost touch with logic at that point. Gotcha!

Happy Halloween!
Regan

I love this post and I love haunted houses! When I was growing up, my home was right next door to an old house ready to be (and should have been) torn down. For years, that old place was our backdrop for lots of spooky stories. I still remember that feeling when walking past it. Most of the time, it was that old place that got me home before dark :)

All of these books look great! Awesome!! I'm a fan on FB as Cynthia Jones :) All the best to you Regan and thank you Nikki!

Thank you for participating in the hop and for the giveaway opportunity. I am not a horror flick or a haunted house fan. I know its not real, but that only works until I fall asleep and wake up screaming. (-; (whoosie here)

Hi, Regan.
You probably won't remember me, but we chatted some months ago during the last Menage A Blog (not the one that just passed obviously). I enter a ridiculously large number of contests and giveaways that I often don't remember where I entered and for what authors from the day before!
For example, yesterday I know I "liked" you on FB; "friended" you on Goodreads and listed all of your books on TBR shelf on Goodreads! I don't remember if I left a comment or filled out a form. I hope it wasn't on this blog and I just forgot to comment...this all tells me, quite clearly, that I need to get a life!!
Thanks for the giveaway..

@Sophia Rose - the wake up screaming thing is exactly what I used to do. My imagination just takes over and makes whatever it was even scarier.

OH, MJB - ROFL! But I sure appreciate every contact online. Thanks for being here!

@Jess, Hello and thanks for stopping by.

@Ashlyn_Jai Thanks for being here, and everywhere else online. LOL.

Good luck to all of you in the giveaway and keep an eye out for the email with the free story details!

Jess, I'll never forget one particular skeptic who blustered his way through the whole place. The guides had paused, the tours just to see if we could get him. When our chainsaw scared him half to death outside, we all cheered! (horrible weren't we?) Still makes me smile.

Thanks for being here! I'll get your free story to you right away!
