Partying it Down for my Birthday with Morticia Knight

Its my birthday and Close Encounters 2 year anniversary!!  To celebrate it this year, we have an amazing Scavenger Hunt set up for next month.  Check out the details and be sure to stop back in for a chance to win some fabulous prizes!  I have Morticia Knight with me today, and she will be back next month as part of the scavenger hunt.  Today she is celebrating her new release:  Arresting Behavior.  Let's take a look:
Arresting Behaviour is Book 2 in the Uniform Encounters series. Each book takes place in Mesa Arizona, and focuses on those yummy men in uniform, and each one can be read as standalone. In this story, opposites really do attract.
Blurb:

Native American Quinn and Detective Jake come from two opposing worlds. But when opposites attract, the result is explosive.

The Bondage Butcher has just claimed his third victim, and newly promoted homicide detective Jake Gutierrez is anxious to speak to the one man who has been intimate with all three victims—Quinn Verdugo. The reclusive and mysterious artist and poet stays just out of Jake’s grasp, until one night when they catch him trespassing at his ancestor’s ancient ruins.
Quinn is devastated by the recent murders, and for the men he once dallied with. Not trusting his heart to anyone since a cruel rejection in his teens, he trusts the police department of Mesa, Arizona even less. He is determined to find the bastard who is committing these gruesome murders, and take care of things himself.
When Jake and Quinn finally meet face to face in the interrogation room, both men are startled at the direction things take. Agreeing to work together, they have no idea the dangers they have yet to face. But what is more dangerous – the murderer, or the spark that has been created between the two very combustible men.
Excerpt:
He was in dangerous territory by staying alone with the man at his place. There couldn’t be any nonsense going on between them. Besides, Quinn hadn’t exactly invited him over, he had just barged his way in. Now he was feeling foolish. Had he overstepped his boundaries? It was just that he’d been so upset when Quinn had told him about the previous night—a knot of fear had settled in his stomach at the thought of that sick bastard being alone with Quinn, touching him, getting ready to do God-knows-what.
He would be completely professional. He was only there to keep watch. That was it.
It was going to be a long night.
He also needed to head to the station early in the morning to make sure that the whole poetry night sting was set, and brief the lieutenant on his progress. Plus, he had to follow up on the list Quinn had given him of previous partners. He couldn’t just remain glued to Quinn’s side, even if that did seem like a nice idea.
Down boy.
He could feel a stirring in his jeans, and wasn’t sure all the resolve in the world would help him if he were to arrive at Quinn’s place with a hard-on.
They got there ten minutes later, and Jake felt he had himself under control. It was a gorgeous starry night, and he marvelled at the display in the sky this far out from the city lights. That was one of his favourite things about the desert—everything seemed much purer out there.
He jumped out of his truck as Quinn languidly got out of his car then walked towards him. He had the briefest sensation the man was going to punch him or something, because his pace quickened and he moved with such intent. The light from the waning full moon illuminated Quinn’s graceful and sexy form as he drew nearer. Just as he got to him, Quinn reached out, grabbed the back of Jake’s head and clamped his mouth onto Jake’s lips.
His breath was startled right out of him, but all he could do was melt against Quinn’s muscled body, and reach up to twine his fingers in the man’s glorious mane of hair. This was exactly what he wasn’t supposed to be doing, but all reason and sanity had disappeared once Quinn had locked lips with his.
There was nothing polite or reserved in the kiss. It was raw and feral, and everything Jake had dreamt it would be. They used their hands everywhere on each other’s body, as Quinn continued to plunder Jake’s mouth. He felt himself being guided towards Quinn’s front door. At some point, Quinn managed to get it open—no lock as he’d said—and they stumbled inside, still tangled up with each other. Quinn kept pushing Jake farther in, and he began to feel the smallest stirrings of concern.
It’s not right. I shouldn’t—not yet.

Happy Birthday! :) Hope you have a good one. And my Q is...what inspired this story?

Hi Marissa - thanks for stopping by! It all began with my love for Mesa, AZ. I've never lived there, but used to visit, as it was only a little over 4 hours from where I lived in California. One of my favorite places to go was the Hohokam ruins (The people who Quinn is descended from), and I combined that with the element of most Native's lack of trust and open disdain for the police dept. I wondered what it would be like if two very opposite people fell madly in love ;-)

Happy birthday, hope you have many more. Q: I love books with a native American plotline. Think I might have been native in a former life. When I visited some ruins in NM I got a very eerie goose bumpy feeling. Sorry, rambling. What flips your switch when you are reading a book? Soul connections and hot men get me.

Morticia Knight said...

I have to agree with you Nancy on both points! That was one of the things I enjoyed most about writing these characters. There has to be that deep connection ;-)

Morticia, do you have a set number of books in mind for this series or are you going to see where it takes you and let the series determine how many books?

Wishing you a happy, happy birthday Nikki!

My questions for Ms. Knight, even though Mesa Arizona is a place you love, was it still a challenge to write about?

Is there a place either in the US or outside the US that you haven't set one of your stories in yet but would like to? Which place and why?

Sadly no naughty birthday memory to share...as of yet!

Thanks for the wonderfully generous giveaway Nikki, looking forward to the scavenger hunt!

Hi Susan - Thanks for stopping by There is a third and final installment - Lust Emergency - out soon. This one involves a handsome doctor and sultry medic ;-)

Morticia Knight said...

Great questions Gabby!

It is always a challenge to write about a specific place - you want to be true to the area, and not take readers who may be from there out of the story. I did a lot of research and had some first-hand help to get specifics of the Native American culture correct.

There are so many places I would love to write about! I'm a natural traveler at heart, so writing is one way to "go" there. ;-) I would choose the British Isles - probably Scotland - because I'm a sucker for those Highland Romances!

Hi Jessie - I started writing MM because I have so many gay friends! I've heard so many stories about their relationship and everyday challenges - and they're not writers - lol. I was already writing erotic romance, so that was why I kept it within that same genre.

How do you chose the covers?

Happy Birthday, Nikki - hugs!! Hope you're having one amazing day that turns into an infinity of memorable fun:)

Hi Morticia - WOW, love the excerpt and will definitely have to read it:) Yeah, I'm hooked (LOL)

So, how did the idea come to you for Uniform Encounters:)

Happy Birthday, Nikki and congrats on your 2 yr blogoversary. Best wishes for another good year. I'm boring and have no naughty birthday memories to share.

I haven't read any of Morticia's books, but I do love books with Native American heroes and set in the west so I look forward to reading this one.

Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.

Morticia Knight said...

Hi Katie,
Actually, I fill out a form at the publishers describing the heroes, the setting, and anything I either would or would not want to see on the cover. This is the first cover where I didn't accept the first two passes - they just didn't scream 'Quinn' to me.
But the cover designer, Posh Gosh, is amazing and she really nailed the final version - I love it!

Happy Birthday!! I hope you have an a amazing one with fun, friends and presents.

My question for Ms. Knight is: Was it hard to transition from writing m/f erotica to m/m erotica when you first started? (i.e. did you get mixed up writing between the two?) and Did you feel like there were a lot of major differences between writing the two different genres?

To Ms. Knight your book sounds like a great read thank you for sharing with us today.

At this point Happy Belated B'Day Nikki.

I love M/M romance and I personally think it is the hottest thing in the world to image to beautiful men making love to each other. My Question is How did you decide to write in this genre? Sorry if someone else has already asked this question.

Unknown said...

Thank you all for the birthday wishes!! You guys are wonderful and wish you all the best!! Good Luck in the contest!!

Meghan said...

Happy Bday! Thanks for the giveaway!

Morticia Knight said...

Wow - so many great questions, and I appreciate all the well - wishes.
To answer a few more questions, the Uniform Encounters idea came from the simple fact of having those firemen, cop and doctor fantasies! I thought I would do a whole series on them ;-)
Switching to MM after writing MF was a little challenging at first, but I agree with Shan that two (or more *wink*) men making love is HAWT, and my gay friends fully support the genre I write in.
