Review: Gethyon by Pippa Jay

His father died. His mother abandoned him. In the depths of space, darkness seeks him.
Abandoned by his mother after his father’s death, Gethyon Rees feels at odds with his world and longs to travel the stars. But discovering he has the power to do so leaves him scarred for life. Worse, it alerts the Siah-dhu—a dark entity that seeks his kind for their special abilities—to his existence, and sets a bounty hunter on his trail.
When those same alien powers lead Gethyon to commit a terrible act, they also aid his escape. Marooned on the sea-world of Ulto Marinos, Gethyon and his twin sister must work off their debt to the Seagrafter captain who rescued them while Gethyon puzzles over their transportation. How has he done this? And what more is he capable of?
Before he can learn any answers, the Wardens arrive to arrest him for his crime. Can his powers save him now? And where will he end up next?

My Review:

This was a phenomenal Sci-Fi read!!  We follow Gethyon through his youth with his grandfather, his struggles trying to fit in, and the intense anger that is always present inside of him.  He doesn't understand why he doesn't fit in and why it is so hard for him to become close to others.  He is sensitive to everyone's thoughts and emotions which drives him to keep people at bay, especially one of the boys at school who hates him.  He is the opposite of Gethyon, but sadly has his sister's affections, so he does not interfere and keeps away from him. Would that he could make Callon see what he did!!  The situation he finds himself in might have been avoided!

One event sparks a chain of happenings that change Gethyon's life forever.  His mom comes back for him and he barely escapes capture several times.  She trains him on how to use and control his abilities, but he is still so full of anger.  Will his recklessness cost him his life?

My heart went out to Gethyon in this story.  He had such a hard time with life and it didn't get any better as he got older.  His one bright spot was his sister, but even she had a hard time getting close to him.  This book was definitely action-packed and exciting!!  I can't wait for more in this series!!
