After Lauren cleaned herself up, she climbed back into bed and sighed deeply, snuggled into the warmth of Eric’s body. She rested her head on his shoulder and ran her fingers across his chest.
This was a momentary lapse into the real world. She knew they would never be more than this. Two people who were so busy with life they could never be a real couple. It just wasn’t in the cards. But she loved how good he made her feel. Like a woman, a real woman, instead of just a ball-busting bitch in a business suit.
“I don’t want to do anything but lie here.”
“Can we at least fool around a little?” He paused a second. “Just give me a sandwich, an energy drink and ten minutes and I’ll be ready for Round Two.”
“Is that all you think about?”
“Um, ya. Is that bad?”
“Men.”
“What’s wrong, babe? You seem a little, I don’t know, frazzled?”
Lauren sat up, pulled her legs to her chest and rested her chin on her knees.
“I’m just worn out.” She looked over and saw Eric wiggling his eyebrows. “Not like that. Just…life has been kicking my ass.
“I don’t know, Eric. I know how I am. I’m a workaholic. There was never the thought of a normal life with a house, kids and growing old together.”
“I don’t know why you can’t. I mean, you’re a beautiful woman, but your job running the restaurant is always on your mind. It’s all you talk about.”
“It’s just…I had to fight so hard to get to where I am. I think that says it all perfectly fine. I’m tired of people thinking I screwed my way to my position.”
Lauren was always the one setting up the rendezvous around her schedule. Sex was fun but it wasn’t her only reason for this. It was there as a relief for stress, and she found that with Eric she didn’t have to worry so much, because she dictated when they would hook-up.
“The women are just jealous.” Eric smiled.
Eric couldn’t really say anything, because he was a lot like her. He was the type of man women liked because he usually did as he was asked. He was a nice guy and easy to handle. Being with Lauren was always the best of times for him. They had incredible sex and she didn’t cling to him, constantly wanting something.
Even as perfect as everything was, their relationship was one-dimensional. It was sexually based and that other connection was missing.
“We need to do something about this situation. I know we’re exclusive to each other but the waiting just kills me.”
Lauren shrugged. “I know. But this is all we have. This is what we decided.”
With a heavy sigh Eric said, “You know, we go through this once a month or so. We have a great time and have to rush away.”
Eric was a little upset. Lauren didn’t argue with what he was saying but this was the relationship they had. This is how it had to be.
“Yeah, I know. No ties. Keep things loose so our lives won’t be tied to the day-to-day drama of a relationship.”
“Exactly.” Lauren looked around for her clothes. “We have busy lives. I’m not looking for a husband.”
“Well I’m not looking for a wife either, but… I don’t know. I’d like to have a little more control. More time to get to know each other a little better.”
Lauren nodded. “I have thought about it. I like how things are, though. Don’t you have fun when we get together?”
Eric smirked and he wiggled his eyebrows. “Well, I can’t complain about that.”
“Didn’t think you would.” She blushed as she put her underwear on and walked to the mirror.
Eric sat up, frustrated. “I don’t always want to be the one waiting for you to call. Waiting for you to make time in your schedule to fit me in. I like fitting into you, but you know what I mean.”
“You think too much.”
“Come here.” Eric patted the bed beside him. “You know what, Lauren? I want a weekend. One weekend, three days, and I want you to be mine the whole time. Whatever I want, whatever I desire. You’ll be there for me, just me, and I’ll take care of everything else.”
Lauren asked, “What do you mean, whatever you want?”
He was serious now and wanted to make sure Lauren knew what he was saying. “I want complete control over you.”
“Like a slave? I’m not sure I could do something like that.”
“Have you ever thought about not having to worry about sex? About what to do, how to act, what I wanted? You ever wanted to have a break from deciding where to eat, where you were going and just have someone tell you and that was it?”
Lauren thought about what he was saying. In a way, not having to decide all that stuff would be a freedom for her. Eric had always treated her like a lady, showed her respect and had always been attentive to her.
“Lauren, do you trust me?”
At that moment, she would do anything for him. She looked up into Eric’s eyes. He would never hurt her, she could see that. “Of course I do.”
“I mean really trust me. Do you trust me enough to give yourself to me? To let me do anything I want?”

My name is S.L. Carpenter and I'm a writer and an artist, a husband and a
father, a slave to the wife and an inspiration to other people I don't know. I
call California home and have been here my whole life. I know...poor me.
I've been writing my special brand of insane little stories for many years, but it's only been in the last decade that I've managed to persuade folks to publish them. I expanded my backlist to include single titles, anthologies and several books co-written with my writing partner (and webmistress) Sahara Kelly. My most recent books are available at Samhain Publishing.
