Giveaway and Spotlight On: Angling for Love by Lea Barrymire

About Lea Barrymire
Lea lives in Western New York with her hubby, three children, and miscellaneous critters. Before the rugrats, she lived a life of adventure, following her husband all over Europe with the US military. She’s slept in a car outside Paris, drove six hours just to see tulips in the Netherlands, and knocked ash from her shoes at Pompeii. Now she spends her time in life’s adventures at soccer games, PTA meetings and school plays.
Lea has loved reading from a very young age, spending many sleepless nights devouring books. Science fiction and paranormal were her favorite genres to read as a teenager, and that love bled into her adult life. She started writing during a bout of insomnia, to fill time, and found it filled a creative void. Now she communes regularly with the characters in her head and tries not to laugh out loud when they say something funny.
When Lea isn’t reading, writing or corralling kids, she enjoys watching movies and sciencey shows, or just kicking back and listening to some music.

She was still staring when two large hands ran down her arms. A squeak escaped her before she could swallow the sound, and she shivered. She turned just in time to find Jared’s face lit with a wolfish grin. He tried to hide it behind a cough but she had seen the sensual look shimmering in his eyes.
A trickle of apprehension wormed through her thoughts. What was she getting herself into? She shouldn’t have started the flirting thing with this man. He oozed sex and even his innocent looks weren’t so innocent. Maybe he flirts with all women. Of course he does. Now what if he thought she was going to hop into bed with him this week? Was she really willing to do that? On one hand she seriously wanted to. On the other was the reserved, scared Arin who hadn’t been with anyone other than Robert.
“Sorry, didn’t mean to scare you.” He didn’t mean a single word and she knew it. With a chuckle, he turned her toward the window again and stood close behind her. She could feel his body heat radiating against her back. It would only take a slight lean, an itsy-bitsy move, for her to be flush against his chest. She felt his breath stir the hairs at the back of her neck as he whispered, “It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”
“Um…yes, it is.” She sidled away from him and tried not look as if she was retreating. The knowing smile that played across his lips made it obvious that she didn’t hide it well.
“Do you want to see your room or find Brent first?”
“I’d like to see my room first, I think. And honestly, I’d like to grab a snack. I had a little something in Denver but I was too nervous to eat a proper lunch.” She finally got around to observing the rest of the floor plan. A few doors led off into unknown areas of the building, but the thing that caught her eye was the spiral staircase that was partially hidden behind a large bookcase. She turned questioning eyes toward Jared. “Cool staircase—where does it lead?”
“That, my dear, goes to the den of debauchery, better known as the staff quarters.” He laughed. “You won’t get to see those rooms unless we become much friendlier in the next few days.”
He turned and walked toward the other side of the room, turning just in time to catch her watching his ass. A grin spread across his face before he pointed through one of the doorways. “Come on—I’ll give you the doorway tour and show you to your room.”
She scampered after him, trying in vain to look as if she’d meant to get caught staring at his behind, again. The perpetual blush she’d sprouted the first moment she met him must be glaringly obvious. She hoped that a quick shower and a mental talking-to would get her mind and body to cooperate. She couldn’t deal with five days of continual embarrassment.

From an early age, Melissa loved to read. First, it was the books her mother read to her including her two favorites, Winnie the Pooh and the Beatrix Potter books. She cut her preteen teeth on Trixie Belden and read and reviewed To Kill a Mockingbird in middle school. It wasn’t until she was in college that she tried to write her first stories, which were full of angst and pain, and really not that fun to read or write. After trying several different genres, she found romance in a Linda Howard book.
Since the publication of her first book in 2004, Melissa has had close to fifty romances published. She writes in genres from historical suspense to modern day erotic romance to futuristics and paranormals. Included in those releases is the bestselling Harmless series. In 2011, Melissa branched out into self-publishing with A Little Harmless Submission and the popular military spinoff, Infatuation: A Little Harmless Military Romance. Along the way she has garnered an epic nomination, a multitude of reviewer’s recommended reads, over five Capa nods from TRS, twelve nominations for AAD Bookies, winning both Most Accessible Author and Author of the Year, and regularly tops the best seller lists on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. She recently had her first USA Today bestselling book, The Santinis Collection.

Since she spent her childhood as a military brat, Melissa swore never to marry military. But, as we all know, Fate has her way with mortals. She is married to an AF major and is raising her own brats, both human and canine. She spends her days giving in to her addiction to Twitter, happy her husband is finally retired and they are living where the bugs die in the winter.

Dom of the Dead by Virginia Nelson

A Halloween to Remember
As a former paranormal investigator, I’ve spent a few nights roaming around in the darkness searching for signs of something or someone speaking beyond the grave. From a very young age, I believed that perhaps there was something more than just poofing out of existence after we died, like we were candles caught in an errant breeze.
When I was little more than four, my mother woke late in the night, weeping because she claimed my father had died. My aunt, our neighbor at the time, told her to go back to sleep and stop being silly. When word came in the morning that he’d indeed died in a car accident, perhaps she seemed a bit less silly.
My own experience was a bit similar. I woke at a little after one in the morning as a teenager, sure I heard my name called. My dear high school friend still has the note as far as I know that I wrote telling her about it the next day. She advised I give the voice a phone call (I recognized it) when I got home from school. I got home to find out that the person I’d heard died right when I heard their voice.
Eerie? Sure, but it almost felt like proof to me. Something to cling to when mortality felt like a weight and I had those scared moments everyone has of questioning what would happen when I croaked.
Perhaps this evidence drove me into my fascination with life after death. Whatever the reason, Dom of the Dead will always be a story that’s particularly close to me. I’ve received, since its release, more emails about that book than any other that I’ve written. Most start off by saying they couldn’t figure out how I’d make sex between a ghost and a living woman work—which, if that intrigues you enough for you to read, awesome.
I’ve been honored to find that few leave my book with that as their experience. Although it’s a very sexy story (Randall was a dominant man in live and the grave didn’t change that character trait in the least), Dom of the Dead wasn’t a story strictly about the smashing of tab A against slot B. For me, it was a story about grief, second chances, and living every single moment to the fullest.
Halloween is a season of ghosts and ghouls and things that go bump…and sometimes grind in the night. It’s a season of playing pretend, of getting treats, and sometimes playing tricks. I love the costume element of the holiday, since most of us spend our lives pretending. We act out the roles we’re assigned, doing everything just like we’re supposed to and not taking risks. For one night of the year, we can put on a costume and leave those roles behind. We can be a princess, a slut, a monster…and we can live out all the fantasies we’re afraid to try on any other day.
Randall and Carson experience something very similar. What if you wasted all of your chances, didn’t take the risks…and you’d run out of time? What if you were offered a second chance, a way to fix your mistakes? You’ll have to read the book to see what they do with their chance. ;) I hope all of you have a Halloween to remember!!

1Night Stand
Dom of the Dead
by Virginia Nelson
She couldn’t imagine living without him.

After Carson Black’s longtime crush and best friend, Randall Stokes, dies in a motorcycle accident, she openly weeps at his funeral. In the ensuing days and weeks of inconsolable grief, she hears his voice, smells his scent, feels his desires. She must be going mad.

He was afraid to demand what he needed.

Dominant Randall Stokes loves Carson but never expressed it while alive, never daring to dream the sweet girl next door could be the submissive he needed to find satisfaction. But after his death, a much clearer perspective of her needs, wants, and desires emerges.

A ghost of a chance…

Is it too late to have what they’ve both longed for?

What Readers are saying:

“These are two best friends who finally realize that their love can transcend their friendship and in this case even the grave. ” -Sheri Vidal

“I can't remember the last time I read a book so fast. ” - JoAnne  Kenrick

“Dom of the Dead by Virginia Nelson is an epic story that deals with heart breaking loss, and makes you face the fact that you have to make the most of the time you have.” – Asher Rae

About the Author:
Virginia Nelson spends her days chasing three very active kids around.  When she is not doing this, or plotting taking over the world, she likes to write, play in the mud, drive far too fast and scream at inanimate objects.  She can often be found listening to music that is far too loud and typing her next fantastic tale of blood, sex and random acts of ineptitude.  Romance, in Ms. Nelson’s opinion, is not about riding off into the sunset on the back of a horse with the knight in shining armor— it is about riding the dragon.  If the knight can keep up… well, that is love.

Enjoy the following excerpt for Dom of the Dead:

“Don’t make me punish you, Carson.”
Her legs shook at the snapped command. She fought dueling emotions—one part of her trembling in desire, the other mad…because, now? When he was dead and gone?
“What are you going to do? You’re a ghost. I knew what you were when you were alive, Randall. Yet not once—never—did you ever make one sexual move toward me. Always the white knight. Always the friend. Why would that change now that you’re pushing up daisies?”
A blast of warm wind picked her up, almost slamming her into the wall. The spectral gust pinned her hands above her head as if held by invisible cuffs and spread her legs open to the humid air. She fought down a wave of unbridled lust.
“When I was alive, I worried my desires would scare you. I worried that what I wanted would disgust you, ruin our friendship.”
She panted, breasts rising and falling with each inhalation. A cool feeling, like ice being rubbed against her, zinged awareness and pleasure through her, but she bit her lip to stay silent, waiting for his next move.
“I know what you want. You want me to take the control away from you….”
Held on the wall by invisible handcuffs, she didn’t care whether her imagination provided this fantasy or if a ghost toyed with her body. Wet, throbbing need between her legs demanded she hang on his every word.
The voice came from the air next to her ear. “Now I have nothing to lose.”

Day 4 of the Tease Me Release Day Party

Wow, Day Four and it is still going strong!

I have been blabbering for months about my husband’s retirement. For those of you who might not know, my husband Les spent 20 years in the Air Force. This September, he retired and I am so excited about this next chapter in our lives. Still, there are things I loved about being a spouse and here are the top five things:

Mel’s Top Five Favorite Things About Being a Military Spouse

5. My children were raised in a diverse environment with people from different cultures, religions and creeds.

4. Being part of something bigger than just an every day job. Families serve too, especially spouses. Support from family is one thing almost every military service member says helps them do their job better.

3. Familiarity. I will be honest with you. I grew up military and so shopping at the exchange and commissary on base, using the facilities…it’s all comforting to a military brat like me.

2. The military family. It’s big, diverse, and oftentimes as annoying as your own blood family, but you can count on them in good times and bad.

1. No matter where you are, you are home.

Giveaway and Spotlight with Morticia Knight and her newest book in her Uniform Encounters Series: Lust Emergency

Lust Emergency - Book Three in the Uniform Encounters series.
The new ER doctor is smoking hot, and the exotic African American paramedic can’t keep his eyes off of him. Tricky relationships and subterfuge at a Phoenix sex club almost drive a permanent wedge between the two, but a bombing at City Hall changes the endgame.

Paramedic Terrence Samuels loves a good time, especially at Phoenix’s top sex club for the GLBT crowd—Sinsation. The young African-American stunner with model good looks is very popular with many of the men at the club. One in particular seems to want more than Terrence would like to give, and is getting extra pushy. But when the sexy ER doctor takes care of Terrence after an injury whilst out on a call, he wonders if it’s time to get out of the club scene.

Ever since his long-time partner died, ER doctor Jackson Reed has been content to live alone with his cat. At thirty-eight, he thinks he has had his chance at love already. He likes to keep to himself at work, but his classic movie-star looks attract the wrong type of attention from a feisty female co-worker. When he blurts out that he’s gay to fend her off, she takes the rejection badly, and now he’s the focus of plenty of salacious hospital gossip.

It takes a lot of convincing from Terrence just to get Jackson to go out for a drink. Once they get together though, the chemistry is so strong that Jackson is ready to take the next step with his exotic date. But will Terrence be able to resist hooking up with multiple partners at Sinsation? And can Jackson trust that his younger stud won’t break his heart? Ultimately, it might be the bomb threats against the City of Mesa that tears them apart forever.

Excerpt:
Lounging in his king-sized bed, Jackson was enjoying his second day off in a row—the first time that had happened for a long while. He kept replaying the luscious kisses he‘d shared with Terrence the night before. It had taken all of his strength to keep from allowing their make-out session to escalate to the next level. The touching and closeness, even Terrence’s smell, all of it remained with him long after his date had left.

And it was a date. He was dating again, and it was okay. He had always known that Walter would have wanted him to move on, but he hadn’t been ready. Ever since Terrence had come over to him in the cafeteria, though, he’d been moving closer and closer to the idea of sharing his life again with another man.

Something prodded the back of his mind..

Sinsation. I wonder what that place is really all about?

He should just let it go. Not worry about it. Terrence had promised he was done with that lifestyle, so what difference did it make what the club was like? He threw the black down comforter back and sat up, clad only in his black silk pyjama bottoms. The built-in electric fireplace had kept the room at a comfortable temperature, but he threw on his top and smoking jacket since the rest of the house wouldn’t be heated right away. He checked the hall, and his paper, the Arizona Republic, was there. He picked it up, heated water in the kettle, then added it to the French press already filled with his favourite espresso roast. He then poured some cream and stirred it in.

He sat at the small modern breakfast table in the kitchen with his coffee and paper. In a few minutes after he’d skimmed to see what articles caught his eye, he would get up and toast a bagel, add some cream cheese and a slice of tomato, and get down to some serious reading.

Idly flipping through the Republic, he got to the entertainment section. He choked on his coffee as soon as he saw it—an ad for a live BDSM sex show at ‘Phoenix’s premiere adult entertainment centre, Sinsation’. The show began at eight o’clock and was starring two of the gay porn industry’s hottest stars. They had laughable names, and he shoved the paper away from him. He crossed his arms in front of him, frowning. He could feel anger and…disgust. That was what Terrence had been afraid of when he’d confessed to going to the club. Participating in sex as a sport. With strangers, people watching—it was too much for him to handle. Maybe they really were too different to be together.

But it hadn’t felt like that the night before. Or the other night in the restaurant lounge. Or their first night at the jazz bar. As much as Terrence had told him that he thought Jackson was the classy one—the compassionate nice one—Terrence had exuded nothing but class and goodness. He had shown such real concern for Reggie, the beating victim. He knew Terrence was genuine.

Isn’t he?

Jackson rubbed his forehead. It was too early in the morning for all of this. He would finish his coffee and go do some errands. Mr Nibbles rubbed against his leg, purring. Right, he had to get cat food, and he was low on groceries and cleaning products. He really should mop the kitchen floor as well, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea to scrub the Jacuzzi tub either. Plus there was that article in the medical journal he subscribed to online about a new antibiotic on the market. Oh, and calling his parents was a good idea too.

Who am I kidding? Terrence and this stupid club is all I’m going to be thinking about all day.

Release Party Day 2 for Tease Me by Melissa Schroeder

Hello, everyone. Day two of the Tease Me tour and you are probably wondering what I will give you??? Well, how about a never before seen excerpt????

Semper Fi Marines, book 1

“Hey. You look beat.”
She sighed. “I am. I think I’ll strip down, crawl into bed, and go into a coma sleep.”
His brain sputtered to a stop. Right there, right then, he wanted her. There was no denying it now. His body ached, his head spun. Never in his life had he wanted a particular woman this much. It left him slightly dizzy and confused. Over the last few days, he had denied his need for her so many times, but right then, at that moment, he couldn’t. There was something about Tess that tugged at his heart. It was probably a mistake, but he didn’t think he could stop himself from taking action. He walked over to her and slipped his arm around her waist. In that instant, it just felt right.
She frowned. “Bran?”
“I’ve been thinking about this all day.”
He had been. Since he stopped by for breakfast that morning, he’d been thinking about it. He wanted a taste. Her mouth. Her flesh. Bran wanted to savor every bit of her body.
The moment his mouth touched hers, she shivered. He was enough of a man to admit that it turned him on to know she was vulnerable to him. She moaned against him as he pressed his body to hers.
Before he knew what was happening, she pulled back shaking her head at him. It took him a second to realize she was trying to disengage from him. There was a split second where he thought about denying her that. Not allowing her to go. Then, his common sense hit him. With much reluctance, he allowed her to step back.
“What’s wrong?”
She looked at him strangely, and he didn’t blame her. Even Bran heard the arousal in his voice. It vibrated just beneath the surface and pounded through his veins.
She took another step back. “This isn’t smart.”
“I never said it was.” He stepped towards her, closing the distance.
Tess held out her hand as if to ward him off, but he took it in his and pulled it up to his mouth.
“Bran, you’re not interested in me. You never have been.”
“You’re wrong there.”
She rolled those expressive green eyes of hers, and he hid a smile as he nibbled on her fingers.
“I’m not wrong, Bran. I’ve never been your kind of woman.”
He heard the doubt in her voice and was stunned. This woman had always seemed so confident, so sure of herself. But in this, she seemed…at a loss. She apparently didn’t know how stunning her found her. That she was gorgeous inside and out.
He guessed it was time to reveal that little secret of his.
“Do you remember graduation?”
“Yes, it rained, we had it inside. It was hot as hell.”
“Not high school. Annapolis.”
She frowned in thought, then nodded.
“You were so excited that you came running up to me and hugged me. Do you remember that?”
She sighed. “Of course I do. It wasn’t that long ago. I don’t know what this has to do with the fact that you’re gnawing on my fingers.”
“Then you kissed me. On the mouth. You’d never done that before.”
Anyone watching would have seen a calm woman, but Bran knew better. He was holding her hand and his fingers skimmed over her pulse. It sped up a beat or two. Bran was enough of a competitor to admit he enjoyed that.
She cleared her throat apparently trying to compose herself. “And?”
He nibbled a little longer, taking his time. He knew it was small of him, but he was enjoying her discomfort. “There’s a reason I avoided you for a few months. For a second there, I almost lost it.”
Now she looked very wary. “Bran if you want me to believe—”
Irritated with her, and the fact that he was dying to touch more than just her hand, he interrupted her.
“I am not lying. You kissed me. It lasted a second and the only thing I could think was that I wanted more.”
Her eyes widened and she shook her head.
He nodded. “Thoughts of tearing off your clothes and kissing every inch of your body took over. Then, all the family came up and well, I felt perverted because the rest of the night I wondered what you looked like under your uniform.”
“You ran off with Jimmy and the rest of those idiots that night.”
“And I came back to the hotel without them. I couldn’t get you out of my mind. Then, you were gone and we were both busy. It all hit me when I saw you the other day.”
“Bran.”
“It’s true. I want you. And I could tell from that kiss, you want me. Why does it have to be any harder than that?”
“Our families, our…careers.”
“And you date other Marines. Unless there is something wrong with me.”
“There’s nothing wrong with you.”
The way she said it was as if she was irritated with him for it.
“Hey, I won’t push you, but tell me…can you really say you don’t want this?”
He pulled her closer and kissed her again, this time thrusting his tongue inside her mouth. She tasted of minty toothpaste and lust. It was an odd combination, but need poured through him. Then, slowly, she slipped her hands up his arms and behind his neck. It was Tess who pressed her body against his this time, and it was him who shook. She tilted her head to the side and slid her tongue against his.
When he pulled back, they were both breathing heavily.
“So, what do you say, Tess?”
He left it up to her. He knew that for her, it was the right way to go. Tess always had to think things over and if she said she wanted to wait, he would wait. He’d have to take a cold shower for an hour, but he would do it. She lifted her fingers to her lips and touched her mouth. She looked stunned.
Damn, she was going to say to wait. Or, worse, no. That would be ten times worse. But then, in a blink of an eye, she dropped her hand and her lips curved.
“Tess?”
“Yes.”
“Are you sure?”
She nodded. “Have you ever known me to not say what I mean?”
Then, he let out an oorah as he bent to pick her up. He caught her unawares and she squealed.
“Bran, put me down,” she said wiggling against him.
“I will, when I can put you under me.”
Then he marched into her bedroom.
