Review: The Lost By: Caridad Pineiro

Adam Bruno is no ordinary millionaire. The heir to an ancient race possessing a dark, powerful magic, he can shapeshift and create energy. His gifts make him a living weapon and have forced him to live in seclusion. But now an inhuman force hunts down Adam-just when he finds someone who makes him feel more human than he ever imagined possible . . .

Home from combat in Iraq, Bobbie Carerra wants only peace, yet soon joins Adam in a terrifying battle against paranormal enemies who hide in plain sight. She's drawn to his strength of mind and body; he's attracted to her courage and intoxicating energy. Their scorching passion can either transport them to the heights of ecstasy or-if Adam's powers rage out of control-destroy them. But when an invisible brotherhood tightens its nets and someone Adam trusts betrays him, only a heartrending decision can save them.

My Review:

Can you imagine the intensity of being able to absorb energy from all the things around you?  We all feel the magnetic pull towards the ocean as it rejuvenates us with it's serenity and life.  Imagine if it truly did empower you. Adam has had the ability to absorb energy and shape shift for as long as he can remember.  The shape-shifting ability was discovered quite by accident.  He was found at a battle scene by his now adopted father with no memory of who he was or where he was from.  His adopted father raised him as best he could but shielded him from the populace because of his abilities.  As a result, Adam felt alone most of his life.  He further secluded himself when he began working towards his dream of opening his own company.  Even though the company was a huge success, Adam still felt as though something were missing and when he caught sight of Bobbie he finally figured out what that was.

Bobbie had been fighting her own demons since her heroic return from Iraq.  Her loss was almost more than she could bare which included normal functioning of some of her limbs, most of her squad, and her boyfriend.  Hero or not, she has lived with the pain that she equates with her most grievous failure, the loss of her soldiers.  She has lost her self-confidence because of her scars and the fact she now relies on a cane to walk.  But something changed one day as she was leaving physical therapy.  As she was leaning against her brother's car waiting for him to get off work, another man came out of the building instead of her brother. And this man completely took her breath away.

Fate has an unusual plan for us all and Bobbie and Adam were no exception.  These two unique individuals must overcome many odds, including a horrid betrayal in order to find happiness.  The mythology that was created to go along with this book was extremely creative.  The author has taken reality and mixed in some fantasy in order to create a thrilling new race.  I can only imagine the rush of being wrapped up with a lover whose core pulsed with pure energy!!  And believe me when I say Bobbie was one happy lady.  She was definitely my favorite character.  She was loyal and extremely brave, pushing her own injuries to the back of her mind in order to rescue another.  I enjoyed this book very much and would recommend to all paranormal lovers.  And I must add that I love the cover!!  Great Read!!!
