Rocking it Down with Danica Avet and her new book: Touched by Lightning

Hello and please give a warm CEWTNK welcome to the amazing Danica Avet!!  She is here today to give us the low down on a new series by a group of her fellow EC sizzling chicas!!  I had the opportunity to interview her about her book and I'm going to give you a sneak look inside.  Give it up for DANICA>>>>>>

1. Tell us ALL about the series as a whole.

Well, the Love’s Defenders series is actually about the Order of Themis, the organization of superhumans who are dedicated to keeping the scales of justice balanced. They’re kind of like the X-Men in that there are so very many levels and types of powers, but they’re all out in the open. In this world, the superhumans have existed alongside normal humans since the beginning of time. The series will follow various individuals and their struggles to beat back the darkness inside them and embrace love.

2. Who is your favorite character and why?

It’s so wrong of me to have a favorite, but I do. Josephina Daly, or Joe, is the Director of the Order of Themis. She’s this six foot Amazon of a woman with more powers than any other “supe” in the organization, but she’s a total girl with her matching outfits, her love of shopping and she simply loves tormenting her employees. Especially the men. She’s all about spa day and team building activities like that, but if you get on her wrong side, watch out. She’s just so funny and bubbly, she makes me laugh.

3. Pick out your favorite scene in the book and explain why you chose it.

It’s probably the moment when Brit stops Gyda from cutting herself and tries to understand her. Throughout the story up until that point, he’s just this pushy guy who’s attracted to her and protective of her, but when he sees her riding on the high of hurting herself, you finally see the man behind the façade. He genuinely cares for her and it breaks through to Gyda, making her see herself as someone valuable, not trash the way she’s always perceived herself.

4. How many panty dropping moments are in this book?

Oh um…*tries to count* Well, Brit has the ability to manipulate electricity. I liken him to a living violet wand, so uh, yeah nearly every time he gets close to Gyda, she gets excited. And she just can’t hide it. *grins*

5. Will we see these characters again?

I know you’ll see them in the second book in the series which is in the acceptance process right now. They don’t play a huge role, but then they don’t need to because that story is amazeballs.

6. What’s in the works for the future?

I’m currently working on two projects at once that I didn’t originally intend to. There’s another interview floating around that I did a couple of weeks ago saying that I’m working on my 4th Cajun Heat book, Primal Dance, but uh, these new characters sort of invaded my mind. I mean, seriously invaded. I’m not sleeping at night because they keep insisting I get my lazy ass up and write about them. All I can say for the moment is that they’re bikers. And they’re hot.

Which means that I now ogle every biker I see on the road as I’m driving around. And not all of them are hot, but I still look. *shrug* what can I say? My characters influence me more than I’d like LOL

Thanks a bunch Chica for sharing the lowdown with us!!  Now lets take a look at the book:

Book one in the Love’s Defenders series.
When empath Gyda St. Germaine is rescued from a sex-trafficking ring, she vows vengeance on her tormentors. Aided by two distinct personalities who bolster her powers, she becomes a vigilante, hungry for revenge. Her path of retribution tosses her into the arms of an Order of Themis Siphon and her world is turned upside down. Fighting her past takes a backseat to her all-consuming desire for the man whose honor and sense of justice go against everything she believes.
The moment electricity manipulator Brit Harper stumbled across a feral woman with a bloody knife, his life changed. Black and white becomes gray as the scales of justice tip. Fascinated by her strength and the darkness in her eyes, he vows to teach her the true meaning of justice, and help her explore the passion sizzling between them. But when the evil haunting Gyda’s dreams returns in the flesh, he’ll have to choose between his beliefs and the woman he loves.

Excerpt:
Joe stood directly behind him, her breath stirring the hair at the top of his head. He wanted to tell her to back up, but he didn’t want to alert the woman on the other side of the door where he was. The soft scraping of metal against metal and the click of the lock told him she was breaking into the building. He wasn’t sure if he should shake his head at her stupidity or be impressed by the ballsy move. Most criminals avoided coming anywhere near The Office. It would be like hanging around a prison when you broke out. Nearly everyone who passed through the doors of the O.T. Headquarters were supes and trained in weaponry. It was suicidal. Yet this woman wasn’t just hanging around the offices, she was breaking in.

Brit pulled back, forcing Joe farther away from the door when the sound of the tumblers being engaged sounded. His heart pounded in his ears, nearly drowning out the familiar squeak of the hinges. He’d have to talk with maintenance about oiling the doors, but for now he was glad to have the telltale noise. Blood pumped through his body, carrying with it the electricity that made Joe shift away from him to avoid being shocked.

The door swung open, but no one appeared for so long he almost gave up his position. Then, silent as a wraith, his mystery woman slipped into the building. If he hadn’t been staring so hard at the doorway, he might have missed her. Slipping through the door on swift, silent feet, she stuck to the shadows along the wall, but there was no way she could hide completely in the garage.  The dim light picked up the gleam of silver adorning her nose and eyebrows, emphasizing the air of danger hovering around her. Pressure against his mental shields told him she was putting out feelers to see if anyone was in the building, but he held firm, masking his presence. Which gave him the element of surprise.

Quick as a rattlesnake, Brit reached for her. The electricity humming through his veins caused his hands to glow pale blue. The encroaching light alerted his prey to his mad grab and she turned toward him, flashing silver blades. He knew without looking that he had a feral grin on his face. It wasn’t because he wanted to hurt her, it wasn’t even because he wanted retribution for the death she’d dealt out. Like a runner reaching for the tape at the finish line, barely concealed glee filled him because he was finally going to get his hands on the woman who’d driven him crazy from the moment he first saw her.

About the Author:

Danica Avet was born and raised in the wilds of South Louisiana (that would be somewhere around Houma) where mosquitoes are big enough to carry off small children and there are only two seasons: hot and hotter. With a BA in History, she figured there were enough fry cooks in the world and decided to try her hand at writing. For eight years she played at writing, but in 2008, she decided to get serious and began down the rocky road to publication. In 2011, the first three of her books in The Veil series will be out with Siren BookStrand and the story doesn’t end there…

Unmarried with no children, Danica is the lucky pet of a compulsively needy dog and two cats. The pitter-patter of little feet has been known to make her break out into a cold sweat.

Writing is how she gives the voices in her head a way out. They speak to her constantly wanting their stories told and she does her best to accommodate them. She writes paranormal romance and may eventually branch out to contemporaries. When she isn’t writing, working, or contemplating the complexities of the universe, she spends time gathering inspiration from her insane family, reads far more than any sane person would want to, and watches hot burly men chase an oblong ball all over a field.
