Giveaway and Interview with author Shannan Albright and her book Passion's Flight

Good Morning my friends!!  Shannan Albright has agreed to my brain probe, and I am translating the answers to my questions as we speak.  I hate it when the machine malfunctions and it spits out the results in ancient Greek.  Like everyone speaks that!  LoL!!  Shannan was a good sport about the whole thing and gave me a second chance at an interview the old fashion way.  This is the insight I was able to glenn from her head about her and her newest book, Passion's Flight:

How old were you when you first realized you wanted to write?
I was eleven and just finished Gone with the Wind.

Oh!!  I loved that movie!! Tell us a little bit about the book.
With ferals attacking the human populace in greater numbers than ever before, Tegan Murin has his hands full these days. When he is ordered to find and destroy a deadly artifact known as Oman’s Seal, deal with his estranged step-father and find a missing archeologist. He’s a bit irritable. Add into the mix a recurring dream of one sexy seductress leading him to his death… well, you get one very pissed off were-panther.
Kyra Navarone is an archeologist who is more than what she seems. Escaping from the ferals who captured her, she ends up running into the brooding, irritating man who makes her blood run hot just with one look. Her life depends on the betrayal of this compelling man, but how can she live with herself afterward?
With ferals, and an Atlantean Tracker closing in on them, they are running out of time, Tegan and Kyra must learn to trust each other in order survive. More hangs in the balance than their lives. Their actions could very well spell the end of everything for not just their world, but the world hidden beneath the waves as well.

This was a great read!  I really enjoyed becoming immersed in so many different characters! What made you choose this genre?
I have always loved the classic monster stories and grew up loving vampire and werewolf movies. Then add to the mix romance and I couldn’t pass it up.

Yes..romance goes good with monsters!  LOL!! Most authors have an unusual story or way that they come up with their ideas for books…Do you have one?
Well, I’m really spoiled living in a tourist town. All I need to do is go to Old Town where the Fremont Experience is and I can find a million stories. People watching is a great past time for a writer.

What is the key element in your character creation?
They all are fighters. Whatever the circumstance that made them, they all have fought their way to get comfortable in their skins.

That is really brought out in this book.  What was your biggest influence that steered you towards writing?
My English teachers in High School, the authors I read and a dear friend who is no longer with me. I dedicated Passion’s Flight to Kyle Ferrell who would be proud to see I “finally” accomplished my dream. The other dedication is to Elizabeth, my cat who kept me company long into the night while I wrote. She was with me for nineteen years.

You have never been loved, til you have been loved by a cat!  I have to ask, what are the hardest scenes for you to write?
Big battle scenes are the hardest since you have to remember who’s fighting who and where they all are in relation to the hero or heroine’s point of view. It can get very confusing real quick and a lot of times I have to act out the scene physically in order to see if it will work.

Now that would be fun to watch!!  Are sex scenes difficult for you to word?
Surprisingly no, and I thought they would be the hardest to get down. I write easier when dealing with strong emotions.

Do you see yourself writing in another genre?
Absolutely. I have a historical in mind set in Elizabethan times. Hey, that rhymed Lol!

LOL!! Has your family been supportive?

I wouldn’t  have gotten this far without the support of my husband. Even though he has never read any of my work, his friends and family have. He is not a reader at all, but has no trouble giving me the room I need to create my worlds.
Are any of your characters reflective of you?
Good Question. I find a tiny bit of me in a few of my characters, but there are more who are nothing like me.

So you see a little of yourself in your characters.  What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I’m an artist so I oil paint, read and love to dance.

I love to dance to!  Who is your favorite book heroine?
David Eddings Polgara. She was the Sorceress in his Belgariad series. It is a Fantasy series but she was one very well rounded character who was comfortable in her skin.

Do you have any unusual habits that revolve around writing?
No, I just sit down and start writing.

What is your favorite mystical creature?
It’s a tossup between Dragons and Mermaids

What were some of your biggest challenges at the beginning of your career?

How to gracefully take rejection and make it work for you, all those rejections made me tougher, more focused and determined to become published and get into the workshops I needed to hone my craft.

That's also some pretty good advice for aspiring authors! How do you feel about reader comments?
I love hearing from readers, good, bad or indifferent their opinions matter to me and I will listen to what my gut tells me when it comes to negative comments. I realize you can’t please everyone. If you could it would be a very boring place to exist.

Do you have any advice for new authors?

Toughen up, keep writing and never say die. I’ve been writing since 1980 and I got published in 2010.  Be tenacious is my advice and you will get there.

This has been quite a long journey for you.  Where are your books available?
You can buy them through
http://www.evernightpublishing.com
Amazon Kindle
Book Strand
1Place for Romance
Barns and Nobel

What can we expect from you in the future?

I am finishing up the second novella in my Knights of Excalibur series for eXtasy Books. I also have a book I’m finishing and hope to get to an agent. And of course the third installment of the Dark Breed Series.

That sounds really yummy!!  Where can we reach you and become informed of updates?

Thank you so very much for having me on your wonderful Blog.

There is not a single thing in this business that I dislike. From first concept to putting ‘the end’ on my finished work, even the promoting I love it all. Words have always been my passion and will continue to be. That is what I think makes a true writer whether published or not.

Your Welcome Shannan!!  Let's take a look at the book details:

Tegan Murin has his hands full these days. Feral attacks are increasing, targeting humans, and now he is ordered to find and destroy a deadly artifact known as Oman’s Seal, deal with his estranged step-father and find a missing archaeologist. He’s a bit irritable. Add into the mix a recurring dream of one sexy seductress leading him to his death… well, you get one very pissed off were-panther.
Kyra Navarone is more than what she seems. Escaping from the Ferals who captured her, she ends up running into a brooding, irritating man who makes her blood run hot just with one look. Her life depends on the betrayal of this compelling man, but how can she live with herself afterward?
More than their lives hang in the balance. In order to survive they must learn to trust one another before the world they know and the one hidden beneath the waves are destroyed forever

I just love shifter books.
I think my favorite type of were would have to be the wolf. There's just something about the wolf that draws me in.

I am not very particular about the weres as long as they're from the more lethal types of larger animals like the wolf or wild cat.

Thanks for sharing about the book and for the giveaway opportunity.

As much as I have fallen in love with big cats a la Lora Leigh's Breeds - the wolf is the iconic shifter in all of his Alpha glory!! :)
