Giveaway and Interview with Kait Ballenger and her new book Twilight Hunter

Good morning my paranormal cravers and welcome to The Dungeon!  I have racked up some FRESH meat for your enjoyment today.  She is a new paranormal writer, and if her first story was any indication, she will fast become a sought after one!! She is currently on the shifter level with no indication she's coming up for air.  So....if her release is held up, just let me know and I'll go down and check on her...muahahah.  Just before the tour and the suit up, I was able to tort....err.....interview her about her book.  This what she had to tell us:

Hello Kait!  So nice to have some fresh....err...new authors down here!  Don’t mind the noise from the prison… err guests, they get noisy during their…treatments...lol. Let me clear a spot so you can have a seat.  Would you like some refreshments before you get started?
Sure thing! I’m up for any sort of fruity drink you may have. Pina colada or margarita, maybe? I guess I’m too much of an alcohol pussy to drink things straight. And don’t worry about the noise. I find it...intriguing ;-)

Tell us a little bit about your new work.
Twilight Hunter is the first full length novel of my Execution Underground paranormal romance series. It tells the story of werewolf hunter Jace McCannon who has to partner with a female alpha wolf, Frankie Amato, in order to catch a sick sexual sadist. Though it’s not quite erotica, the series is high heat level and there are lots of forbidden love themes. The tag line for Twilight Hunter is “Sleeping with the enemy could be deadly...”

Yes, but in my experience "sleeping" is never involved...lol.....What first sparked the series idea?
Wait a second...is that scr—? Nevermind, maybe I don’t want to know what I’m hearing in the prison...

Oh I can guarantee if you saw WHY she was screaming, you would be envious, not horrified.......wwwweelllll  not extremely horrified.

Back to the questions...

LOL.

It was a culmination of many things. Nothing in particular sparked it, as boring as that may sound. I just knew I wanted to try writing paranormal romance and the idea grew from there.

Who is the character that in your opinion everyone is going to fall in love with?
Oh, damn, I love all my heroes, so that’s a hard choice lol. It may seem convenient since his is the book that I’m promoting, but Jace really is one of my favorite characters from the series. He’s dark, sexy, and a total bad boy. He swears like a sailor, smokes like a chimney, and drinks like a fish, but still manages to be a hero at the end of the day despite all his sexy naughty flaws. Not to mentioned, he’s a tortured soul—who doesn’t love the dark brooding types? I hope readers love him just as much as I do. Jace wouldn’t be the type of be hung up on one of your racks though. He’d be the one hanging someone up on a rack. He’s a dominant guy.

Yumm...You may just have to bring him with you next time...I have to ask, what are the hardest scenes for you to write?
It don’t struggle writing any type of scene in particular, but what I enjoy the least is when I have to write big chunks of description about the setting. I force myself to do it so readers can know where they’re at, but I enjoy writing dialogue and actions the most. A lot of people struggle to write sex scenes or fight scenes, but I love writing those. Those are easy for me.

Oh...me too!  Oh wait we are talking about writing....How would you rate the sex scenes throughout the series?

On a scale of 1-10 (1 being no-sex Amish romance and 10 being erotica) I would say the series is probably about an 8. I don’t like to beat around the bush with silly euphemisms and I also don’t leave my characters to the awful fates of just missionary position intercourse lol. They switch things up—they enjoy some different positions and some nice oral fun added as well. In Twilight Hunter there’s also a little bit of submission themes going on, so that adds a nice fun layer of naughty, too. Readers of Shadow Hunter, the prequel novella to the series (which does not have to be read before Twilight Hunter), will be surprised by the heat level of Twilight Hunter. I had to tone down the language for the prequel novella in the After Dark anthology, so that one would probably be about a 6.5 in heat level. My publisher for that specific book (since it was in the anthology) requested that I avoid using certain words. In Twilight Hunter I didn’t have to tone things down though.

Are there any of these in your books?  (Hands one of the toy boxes on the right which is filled with sex toys, whips, body creams, lotions, lubs…and whatever else you can imagine)
Some handcuffs make an appearance in Twilight Hunter, so that’s fun. Aside from that though, nothing yet, but I definitely wouldn’t rule out the possibility of sex toys showing up throughout the series. Chains are always fun, too. ;-) Trent Garrison, the hero of the fifth book in the series (so quite a few books after this one), has some BDSM fetishes going on, so his book will probably have some fun toys and bondage.

MMMmm..my kind of guy!!  How many books do you see in this series?
Currently, I have six planned plus the prequel novella, so seven total. Each hunter gets his own book, but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of more later on, or the possibility of a spin off series.

Are any of your characters reflective of you?
Not really. I think they all have some qualities that are similar to me in some way since I’m the author, but none are really reflective of me. If I had to pick one though, it wouldn’t be one of the heroines like most people would guess. It’d probably be Jace. I’m not a heavy drinker or smoker like Jace is (I’m no party girl), but Jace is somewhat hot headed and reactionary, and I’m that way too. Most people who meet me wouldn’t think I’d be that way, since I’m pretty sweet when I’m in a good mood, but I’m kind of scary when I’m pissed off lol. I’m very stubborn and bullheaded lol.

Tell us about some of your other works.

The only other novel I have that’s currently released is a prequel novella to the series in the After Dark anthology titled Shadow Hunter. It’s about the leader of the Rochester division of the Execution Underground, Damon Brock, and how he came to establish the division. Following the release of Twilight Hunter on August 27th, the next book in the series is Immortal Hunter, which releases January 28th 2014. Immortal Hunter focuses on David Aronowitz, a demon hunter and exorcist. Don’t worry, he wouldn’t exorcist a demonness quite like yourself though.

I’m so happy you have made this a stop.  Would you like a tour of the…err…levels?  I can introduce you to the “guests”, if you just hand me that box back.

Absolutely! *Hands box back*

Let’s get you suited up:
Wine, mixed drink, or straight up? Mixed drink.
Leather straps or chains? Ooooh. I like chains better hehe.
Cat-o-nine, braided leather, or chain length whip?  Braided leather
Collar and Leash or Adornment? Collar and Leash
Leather studded bodysuit or corset top? Corset Top
Fishnets or garter-belt? Garter-belt, though I like both.
Leather pants, mini, or a long skirt slitted up both sides? Mini
Lace up boots (with or without heels) or come F*** me high heels? Lace up boots with high heels
Ball gag, manacles, or blindfold? Hard to decide between manacles or blindfold, but I think I’ll go with manacles.
The rack or the whipping post? The rack.
Candle wax or clamps? Candle wax
Blonde, red-head, Brunette, or Supernatural J? How about a brunette supernatural? That’d be my favorite, though I’m not too picky.
LOL...Kait is tons of fun and I have enjoyed having her on here..well having her stay here...like I said, let me know if the book misses it's release date!!  Let's take a look at it:
Hunters of the supernatural, the Execution Underground are an elite group tasked with protecting humanity...but what happens when danger collides with desire?

Jace McCannon has one loyalty: the Execution Underground. Despite his mixed blood, his hatred for the werewolves he hunts is legendary. But in his search for a sadistic killer, Jace finds himself face to face with a stunningly seductive packmaster…and longing for a night with his mortal enemy.

Nothing can stop Frankie Amato from defending her kind--or catching the rogue responsible for killing women in her territory. For that, this alpha female needs Jace’s skills more than she wants to admit. But as their investigation exposes evil truths, need burns into a passion that dare not be fulfilled. For to do so will have deadly consequences for them both.....

And a sneak at book two:

Hunters of the supernatural, the Execution Underground are an elite group tasked with protecting humanity...but at what price?

As an exorcist, David Aronowitz grew up the target of demonic
assassins. Now he’s a member of the Execution Underground
and hellspawn everywhere fear his name. But when a demon
slips into the seductive body of the only woman he’s ever loved,

David must confront the heartbreak of their past to save her.
The piece of her heart Allsún O’Hare gave to David so long ago
left her trapped between two worlds: the Fae and the human.
And when David comes to her rescue, fate reunites her with her
greatest temptation—and her biggest mistake.

Now, as they’re swept together into a wicked game with the
demon who controls her, David must decide if saving Allsún’s
life is worth sacrificing his own—and the future of humanity itself.

I am ambivalent to the idea since I love vampires in whatever role they play in a novel. sdylion(at)gmail(dot)com

I'm ok with vampires being the bad guy because if it has vampires then it's a paranormal story which is one of my favorite genres.

Not Everyones Mama said...

I'm with everyone else, I am good with vampires being the bad guy. Until recently, that was the majority of the roles they played.
Thanks!

I totally can see a vampire in the bad guy role. Their role has been romanticized in too many recent books, but when you think about it, they are bloodsucking murderous parasites!

I think this was the original thinking about vampires and I would love to read this!

I haven't read a book in a while where the vamps are bad guys so this will be a good change of pace!

Just as with any group of individuals you have both good and bad and those in the space between.

I like the idea of bad guy vampires, after all they started off that way! Besides it's nice when vampires are portrayed the way humans are as both come from the same source ;)

I love seeing vamps as bad guys and good guys they fill each role as only they can lol.

I love reading Vamp books. Most of the time they fit being the bad guy, but not always! Thanks for the giveaway!

Vampires need love too, good or bad.

I have been reading a lot of Vampire books lately where they are the good guys. I enjoy those better than the ones always showing them as bad.

Just like in real life, there are good and bad people, so there should be good and bad people in books. It does not matter if they are were or vamps--that is just the way it is.

There is good and bad in all and i love to read about vampires and all the supernatural good and bad lol

Considering the nature, myths and legends behind vampires I think they fit the bad guy mold easily. That being said they sure can make sexy good and bad guys lol.

Vampires have been the bad guys for centuries. They are one of the original "things that go bump in the night"!

As long as their hot and sexy it really doesn't matter if they are the good guys or the bad. :)

Unknown said...

I guess it would depend on how bad they were or if they were redeemable. I've read a series where there were good vampires and bad vampires and that was a very interesting take on vampires. But, aren't vampires a bit on the 'bad' side anyway????

Looking forward to reading this series. It will be a change though. I'm used to vampire's being the heros. But the series sounds great!

While I prefer vampires as the good guys, I have not problem with them being the bad guys, instead.

Good or bad, it doesn't matter as long as they are hot and sexy!

Well I guess that I am okay with vampires being both bad and good guys.

I don't really like them in only a bad guy role I like to see them in both Thanks for the giveaway

I read them in both the good and bad guy roles and if the stories are written well I like both. Usually I like them as good better but not always!

Every race has bad guys, as long as they are good books. I don't care. Thanks for sharing and the giveaway. I am looking forward to reading Twilight Hunger. evamillien at gmail dot com

I love vampire bad guys, but I also like a balance that shows there are good guys as well. Everything cannot be black and white - it would be so boring. Thank you for sharing with us.

I don't mind a good old fashioned bad vamp :)

well this is different lol vamps are the bad guys again. Awesome!

I don't care if they are the bad guys or the good guys as long as they are in the story! Vampires are my favorite as far as supernaturals go, so as long as they are in the book, good/bad/in-between I am a very happy reader. I am so excited about this series, Yay! Thanks for the great interview and the awesome giveaway!
