This was an interesting little love triangle tale. I would suggest you read book 1 before diving into book 2. You need the back story for this one. I can really understand Wyn's plight. On one hand she loved her maker, but she couldn't deal with his tendencies and needed to know there was another way. In walks Rider, a basic answer to her needs at the time, even though she still loves Ronan. She finds the other way to survive and a different way to look at life. I was floored by the contrast of Wyn from book 1 to book 2. It was quite an unusual, but good story. I look forward to reading more by this author.
