It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She's wrong.

White Lace and Promises by Natasha Blackthorne

After reading Grey's Lady I was eagerly anticipating Natasha's sequel to this Naughtily Ever After.  You know a book usually ends after the couple gets married and has a baby and you just put the couple on the shelf marked happily ever after.  Not so in their case.  They had way too many skeletons that needed to come out of the closet, on both sides.  In their case they needed each other to make them whole, to heal the past scars that haunted them.  But finding each other wasn't enough and the author knew their story was just beginning.  And now I give you the eagerly anticipated squel, White Lace and Promises.
Book two in the Carte Blanche Series

Beth and Grey’s passionate battle of wills continues...

New York Merchant Prince Grey Sexton loves the audacious, spirited young temptress who seduced him in a Philadelphia bookseller’s and made passionate love to him in his carriage. Her fiery nature broke through his cold self-protection. But in a time of war and trade disruption, he cannot allow himself to be distracted. He vows to put business above all else in his life, including his bride.

Shocked and hurt by Grey's distance, Beth wonders whether he truly returns the burning love she feels for him. Beth demands that Grey prove he can truly change once and for all or else she will not start a family with him. But will the dark, sensual secrets she yet keeps repel this arrogant, self-controlled gentleman she has married?

My Review

For those of you that have read Grey's Lady, the sequel begins pretty much where this book ends.  Beth cannot believe that Grey has really asked her to marry him.  She is now engaged to the merchant prince of New York, but real life has an ugly way of getting in the middle of someones naughtily ever after.  Her half-brother and sister keep coming to Beth with their money problems and expecting her to fork over the money.  The woman who had raised Beth since her mother died is filling her head with the rules and expectations of Grey's world and Beth's first love has come back to haunt her and her new found love.  Top this off with some vicious gossip about her husband to be;s first marriage and some ugly familial truths that come to light from Beth's past, and you have the recipe for a very rocky start.

Grey is battling internally with his preconceived ideas about how his life and his marriage should mingle.  He is obsessed with thoughts of Beth, so much that he is missing meetings and allowing work to pile up, even when he is at work.  He is a man that lives by a very controlled means and knows no other way to be.  After the failure of his first marriage and his fear of ending up in a marriage similar to his parent's he has sworn off the thoughts of kids and settling down.  But Beth was different.  He had to have her, to posses her, to own her.  She was like a burning need, quite comparable to breathing and eating. But he had to treat her with caution, just in case she decides to run from him...again.

White Lace and Promises will take you on a roller coaster ride of erotic sexual encounters, lies, deception, and near misses, on its journey towards it's naughtily ever after. Here both of the characters are stripped down to the bare essence of why they turned out the way they did.  Grey has to compromise and realize that his way is not the only way.  Beth has to learn to trust in him.  But both are strong-willed and stubborn and after all the secrets are revealed and the dust has settled, can they move forward?  I really enjoyed reading this story.  I fell in love with Grey in the last book and all over again in this one.  Still at the end of this dripping conclusion, I would love to be Grey's Lady!  Natasha has pumped out an excellent sequel!!  I can't wait for her next book!!

The Prophecy of the Flames

Good Morning CEWTNK!  I have just finished reading the first of this remarkable series and can't wait to tell you about it!!  Let's take a look at the details:

In a blinding flash of light, five nondescript strangers are yanked from this world and thrust into a land of sorcery. Transformed into the characters they were pretending to be; Archmage Reba, Jamison the healer, Jerik the dwarf, Charles the prince charming, and Allinon the druid elf blend twentieth century technology with the supernatural powers of this new world.

This band of wannabe heroes soon discovers that having the powers you have always dreamed of, does not make life a dream come true. The Crusaders of the Light struggle to form a cohesive band as they fight to liberate the kingdom of Cuthburan from the evil horde threatening humanity.

For those who believe the struggle of love adds a greater depth to any story, the romantic thread in Book One is explored in greater depth in this version.

Battle is also waged within Reba, an ordinary housewife who has become the most powerful mage on the planet, as she struggles to remain true to her wedding vows. Drawn against her will to the arms of Prince Alexandros, Reba must choose between the prophesied marriage to a handsome prince in a magical world or returning to the husband she left behind.

My Review

Imagine if you will, your husband buying you a vacation at a role playing themed hotel.  It sounds awesome right?  LOL...if you are into role playing.  It's hard to explain to your love that playing video games and actual live role playing are two different things.  But the thought was sweet and there was always next weekend to sleep in.  So off they went to enjoy.  Rebecca was almost late for role call and was introduced to her team mates.  They were split into groups of five, with no time to spend getting to know each other because, yep you guessed it, Rebecca's group was up first.  So as they prepare for a mock battle with tin foil swords, the game master announces that no magic can be used.  Well that's just peachy.  Rebecca's character was a mage.  She had spent all of time writing spells instead of developing her character.  So as they are engaging a group of gremlins in their first mock battle, something strange occurs.  Rebecca is blinded by a bright light and suddenly winds up inside of her character...literally.  As she looks around, she realizes that all of her teammates have become their characters, and wherever they were, it wasn't where they were a few minutes ago.
So you take a bunch of earthlings, give them unimaginable powers, and drop them in a medieval version of earth and you get the makings of a completely amazing adventure.  I loved it!!  Rebecca or Reba, as she is called in the other dimension is by far my favorite character.  She is strong-willed and mouthy and quite good with rhymes.  She also has a good heart and loves children.  This particular dimension that they had been summoned to was under attack by a fierce demon hoard.  It was revealed to their mage that these five would bring about the turning point in the war.  Not to sure, which turning point, but a turning point none the less.  So you travel through this foreign land with our group of really unlikely heroes, as they bumble their way through their new found powers.  This book was one I couldn't put down.  The descriptions are so realistic, you can actually picture yourself immersed in the colors and scenery.  The writing flowed and the storyline kept you completely sucked in until it was over and then the disappointment spit you out.  I will be getting the next book because I have to know what happens!!  Great series!!  It has my highest rating!!

This book was provided to me by Lightning Book Promotions (http://lightningbookpromotions.com) Here is where the author can be found https://www.facebook.com/ProphecyOfTheFlame?sk=app_138507036234062 and all  the proceeds of this novel goes to help Lynn's Homeless Shelter called Agape Assistance http://agapeassistance.org/

This book is going to be made into a movie!  This is super exciting because it was such a good book!!!

Sneak Peek and Review of The Lure of Shapinsay

LOL..This was supposed to post together but evidently blogger had other ideas about how it should post.  Just remember there is a giveaway going on with an e-copy of this book and a T-shirt.  Just click here: http://closeencounterswiththenightkind.blogspot.com/2012/01/giveaway-and-guestpost-of-lure-of.html
Here's a little sneak peek:
A hand slid over my mouth and stifled my scream before I was even fully awake.  When my eyes sprung open, I was ready to be filled with the image of a most ghastly villain, but instead it was forewarned magick that filled my eyes, and I was filled with awe.  A man in the lightest sense of the word, loomed over me with eyes so wide and feral, I thought he might howl to the moon.  His words came out rough and breathy.  “If you make a sound, I’ll snap your scrawny neck.”

My Review

Escaping into a different time is always a pleasure.  Another world void of the technology that clutters our day to day life's and the endless string of wireless devices that we can't live without.  A world that involves walking, knowing who your neighbors are, and most importantly magick.  Magical creatures were once alive and a big part of of everyone's day to day life.  Such is the case in Shapinsay.  Kait is a young girl with a little bit of a rebellious streak and a whole bunch of wild hairs.  Most of the villagers are afraid of the water, but Kait feels its calling like its a second home.  She feels more alive when she's in the water, more so than she has ever felt on land.  Even though Kait is considered quite outspoken, she has a good heart.  Her only true friend in the village goes into labor at the beginining of the story, but the child is not wholly human.  The webbed feet and dark eyes are a dead giveaway that the child was part selkie.  The mother is restrained as the child is thrown into the ocean.  Kait jumps in to save the child, angered that the people in her village are so heartless.  Unbeknownest to Kait, she has sealed her fate as a murder in the eyes of a young selkie male.   Her scent has filled him and he is going on a hunt for the young woman he thinks killed one of his own.

Eamon is on the hunt.  He has no care for the land dwellers.  He life and love is the ocean. But the senseless death of one of the half-breed young fills him with rage.  He is driven with the need for revenge.  But once he comes face to face with the supposed killer, can he really follow through with the act?  I really enjoyed this little novel.  It has quirky characters, kind of like mixing the mind set of women today in a past setting.  The woman known as the village witch was by far my favorite character, even though her story was a little sad.  I liked the way the author gave the selkies a good mix between the human and animal traits.  I also loved the mythology behind how the came to be.  I'm a sucker for past stories!  I will be looking for more from this author.  For this being her first in series, she has the potential to expand into something great :)

Conflict—Sweet—Conflict

Every romance needs conflict and each source of woe is as delicious as the next. There’s the love triangle, the long distance relationship, the unrequited love, and the clash of clans like Romeo and Juliet. What I’d like the reader to consider is a little love story with almost insurmountable odds. It’s called The Lure of Shapinsay and the year is 1848. His name is Eamon and he’s a very naughty selkie from the sea; Kait’s a land dweller with a razor sharp tongue. The attraction may be powerful, but even the ancient Norse gods frown on this relationship caught in the crossfire somewhere between heaven and hell.
There’s a reason why almost all of the selkie legends are romantic tragedies. For those of you who aren’t familiar with these mythical creatures, selkies are beautiful men and women who live as seals in the sea, but occasionally shed their skin to come onto land. Traditionally a female is captured off guard and forced to marry the brusque fisherman who’s hidden her skin. She’s as meek as she is beautiful and children soon follow in this seemingly sweet arrangement. But it’s not a match made in heaven. Every day the selkie bride stares across the bay, aching for her hidden skin so she can return to her one true love—the sea. The story usually ends when her child stumbles across a silky coat hidden in the most remote of places. The child presents the skin to his mother who quickly escapes back to the sea leaving a stunned family behind.
Selkie males are a wonderful inspiration for conflict. Traditionally the males were blamed for nearly every drowning on the Orkney Islands, the setting for The Lure of Shapinsay. For hundreds of years they’ve crept silently on land to seduce women before luring them to their deaths deep beneath the sea. It’s no wonder that Kait risks more than a broken heart when she first lays eyes on Eamon’s pearly white body—she risks her life. It’s because of his siren like lure, that Kait would gladly follow him under the waves and end her life. Eamon struggles with his own demons and would just as soon kill Kait for simply being a land dweller. But even before their first sumptuous kiss, these two understand they are meant to be together despite the very habitats that tear them apart. The Lure of Shapinsay is the story of two simple souls who shouldn’t be together. If staying together is an adventure, then staying alive will be a miracle.
That's a pretty accurate description. Let's take a look at the book:

Ever since Kait Swanney could remember, the old crones of the village have been warning her to stay away from the selkies. They claim that like sirens of old, the seal men creep from the inky waters, shed their skins, and entice women to their deaths beneath the North Sea. But avoiding an encounter becomes impossible when Kait is spotted at the water’s edge, moments after the murder of a half-selkie infant.

Kait is woken unexpectedly by a beautiful, naked selkie man seeking revenge. After she declares her innocence, the intruder darts into the night, but not before inadvertently bewitching her with an overpowering lure.

She obsesses over a reunion deep beneath the bay and risks her own life to be reunited with her selkie. But when she lands the dangerous lover, the chaos that follows leaves Kait little time to wonder—is it love setting her on fire or has she simply been lured?
