Giveaway and Review of Thomas Winship's Vaempire's Revolution

Good Morning and Welcome to this stop on Thomas Winship's virtual tour of his book Vaempire's Revolution. You can check out the rest of the tour here:  http://darkmindbooktours.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/vaempires-revolution-now-on-tour.html  I have read it and can't wait to tell you all about it.  But first, let's take a look at the book details and a little bit about the author:

It is the morning of Princess Cassandra’s sixteenth birthday. Everyone’s attention is focused on the heir to the vampire throne. World leaders, the rich and famous, and VIPs from every corner of the globe have gathered in the nation’s capital to celebrate the momentous event.

Cassandra’s boyfriend, Daniel, is late for the party. He’s still outside the city when all hell breaks loose. What he believes is an act of terrorism proves to be a full-fledged revolution. Væmpires—former vampires who mutated into warm-blooded creatures with an insatiable hunger for cold blood—have launched coordinated attacks across the globe, with three goals: the eradication of humanity, the enslavement of vampires, and the ascension of væmpires as the dominant species on the planet.

The vampire and human leaders are killed. Cassandra is missing. Daniel is the acting king. Desperate to find the princess, Daniel and his friends fight their way across the besieged city. With the hopes of the free world resting on the shoulders of four vampire teenagers, væmpires unleash their secret weapons—væmpires with special powers.

What can four teens do against an enemy that can shape-shift, fly, or walk through walls?

My Review:

I liked the new spin that Thomas has created on vampires.  Can you imagine a vampire sub-species?  A mutated vampire that was faster, stronger, warm-blooded, with extra powers , and that survived only on vampire blood. In this world, Vampires are the dominant species.  They have created a blood-like replacement for vampires that not only allows them to eat regular food, but also eliminates the need for human blood and enables them to have children.  This however, comes with a price.  Several of the children are mutating into something else, this sub-species I have described.  They call themselves Vaempires and in their minds, they are the new dominant race.

So our story begins with the Vaempires throwing the world into chaos.  They have begun a world-war to establish themselves as the new dominant race on the planet.  The had well-planned and coordinated attacks launched simultaneously on all the major cities.  They eliminated the human and vampire leaders with the exception of the princess.  I'm not sure if the new race of Vaempires with choose to mimic any of the vampires because some have shape-shifting abilities.  The were unable to locate the head of the queen, which is suspicious and for some reason I have noted that unusual detail..lol.

Cassandra, the princess, is kidnapped by a vaempire she grew up with and dated for a while before he mutated.  She broke it off with him because of his personality shifts and the fact that she didn't love him.  Her heart had always belonged to Daniel.  But this particular vaempire is a reader.  Cassandra has information about the nucs that he needs.  The Vaempires plans include wiping out the humans and enslaving the vampires.  In order to do that they must uncover the secret nuclear warheads stashed all over the worlds.  But the vampires had prepared for this.  They had backup protocols just in case security was breached.  But when they realize they have been activated and the princess's information is useless, will they kill her?  Or hold her for ransom?

This was an extremely interesting story.  I strongly suggest that you read the prequel to this story.  It gives you a lot of details that help in understanding both sides of the story and where all the feelings between the teenagers are coming from.  I enjoyed the concepts in this book immensely!!

Hi,
thank you for the chance at such a great giveaway. i love the cover, it's beautiful and the book sounds wonderful.

my favorite vampire is still the king himself "Dracula" as written by Brahms Stroker. now if you are asking about my favorit film version it is still Dracula but it is the 1979 version and he is played by Frank Langella. i think that up until then most vampires were considered "scary" but he was so Hot that he just grabbed your attention from the start and his acting was excellent too. IMOVHO is still the best version to date.

Thank you for commenting, Tammy. I, too, am a big fan of Stoker and Langella.

ok, favorite vampire...It would have to be George Hamilton in "Love At First Bite!" I just love that movie. It is hilarious.
"With you, never a quickie. Always a longie." LOL

There are a few others out there that are good, but none stick in my head like that movie.
Thanks for the great giveaway!

For me, I have to say it's a toss up between Bram Stoker's Dracula and Barnabas Collins in the 90's remake of Dark Shadows!! But I do think the new movie Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp is a great depiction of Barnabas Collins as well. I think he and Tim Burton did a great job.

And thanks so much for the giveaway!!

I have to go for the classic Bram Stoker's Dracula. Once I saw the movie I was hooked.

Can't argue with that, Leigh. It's the reason vampires still exist.

That's a tough one. One of my fave vamps for taste is Stephen from the Mercy Thompson novels by Patricia Briggs. His nickname is the Soldier. Yet he drives a van that looks like the Mystery Machine. With a stuffed Scooby next to him!! Love it!

Sounds like a wonderful read. I am glad to seen tough a nasty vampires in books rather than the wussy emo ones like in Twilight. I'm not sure I have a favorite vampire, but I definitely have a least liked vampire. I like Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse novels, Nick from Forever Knight, and Jean-Claude and Asher from Anita Blake novels.

I'm a huge Anne Rice fan, so I would have to say Armand and Akasha were my favorite vampires.
