Review: Angel on Fire By Jacquie Johnson

All Angela wants is to understand why her father, security specialist Mac McKenzie, dropped dead on a sidewalk in Boston. Instead, she is thrust into the midst of an international conspiracy when she discovers that her father was working on a classified project at the time of his death. Now, the FBI, a terrorist and a killer have her in their sights.

Former Navy SEAL turned undercover operative, Chase Romero thinks his boss is overreacting when he orders Chase to small town America to protect Angela. But he changes his mind when her home is burglarized and "accidents" begin to happen. The real question becomes, how can he keep her safe if he keeps tripping over his own heart?

After shooting an intruder, Angela flees the scene, and the FBI issues a warrant for her arrest. On the run for her life and her freedom, she places her trust in Chase. As they travel from New England, to the nation's capital, to the shores of Lake Michigan, the trail - and their attraction - grow hotter. Together, they team up to prevent a global financial market meltdown and face a killer who will stop at nothing to get his hands on the project Mac protected with his life.

My Review:

Angela's world has been torn apart when she receives a phone call that her father has died.  After she goes home from the funeral, he life goes from bad to worse.  Her father's house gets broken into, she gets hit by a car, starts receiving weird and threatening phone calls, and whats up with her dads business?  She doesn't understand how a completely healthy man can just drop dead of a heart attack, and all of a sudden he has a heart condition? Since when?  Nothing is making any sense and everything seems to be closing in on her.  Then an unlikely and totally hot savior comes in to help her.

Chase couldn't believe he was put on babysitting detail.  I mean sure this was his boss's goddaughter, but how much trouble was she really in that required his services?  Everything looked pretty straight forward until after the funeral.  Chase started tailing her and watched the burglary and the car swipe, which he broke his cover to help her up.  Nothing was making sense and he was even more surprised when a man began physically threatening her on her father's front porch!!  As Chase swoops in to save the day again, he is aware of how dangerous this mission is starting to be.  But unlike most of them, this one is a danger to his heart.

Chase and Angela start working together to unravel the mystery surrounding the death of her father.  So much doesn't make sense and the more answers they get answered, the more questions start to pop up.  During all this, they are also fighting against the growing attraction between the two of them.  Chase believes that nothing can ever come of this because of his past and his job and fights against the powerful pull of Angela.  Angela is only alive when she is near him.  Can they work it out?  This book had a lot of action going on and a lot of surprises that popped up.  It was a thoroughly enjoyable read and the author has hinted at the possibility of a series.  Let's hope so.  I'd love to know what happens to Maddie and Cat!!

Thanks for hosting Angel on Fire on your blog and for the lovely review, Nikki. I'm glad you enjoyed the story. The next book in the series focuses on Sean and Emily but Cat, Angela and Chase are featured as well.
