Name That Detective by Regan
Black
Hi everyone! It’s paranormal
romance author Regan Black again! Thanks so much to Nikki for having me back
here today. I need a favor!
In the Matchmaker’s Mark, we
meet Maeve King, best friend of the new matchmaker.
(I reviewed this book and loved it!!! Here is the link: http://closeencounterswiththenightkind.blogspot.com/2011/10/matchmakers-mark-by-regan-black.html)
In book 2, The Matchmaker’s
Curse, Maeve has to call the police because an intruder vandalized her bed.
Yikes! Naturally, that means a supporting character in the way of a detective –
but he needs a NAME! Can anyone help me, please?
Her bed was
shredded. There was no other word for it. The absolute chaos had her gut
churning. Not with fear, but with something less familiar; something murky she
couldn’t identify beyond instinct that warned of unwelcome risk.
The detective
looked at her with a bit too much sympathy. “It might be best if you stayed
with a friend or found a hotel for a few nights.”
“That can’t be
necessary, Detective [last name].”
“Call me [first
name].”
She smiled
through the stress. “If I agree to leave the room alone?”
His knowing
expression was softened by pity. “Afraid not. They’ll clear the scene in a few
days.
“Ms. King, can
you think of anyone holding a grudge against you? An ex-boyfriend, maybe a
disgruntled student?”
“No on all
counts. I’m not dating anyone seriously.” An image of Grant’s face flashed
inexplicably into her head. “Haven’t for some time.”
“That mess in
there looks like someone has had plenty of time to build up some anger.”
“My last steady
boyfriend died just before our college graduation.”
“Oh.” The
detective cleared his throat. “I’m sorry. And the roses are from?”
“Last night was
Valentine’s Day. I had a date.”
“That bouquet
looks like he shelled out some pretty serious cash.”
“He did. The
evening didn’t end well, but I’m certain he isn’t responsible for that.”
“Why?”
“Because he’s a
well-mannered colleague of mine at the college. Dr. Benjamin Wright.” Her gaze
drifted back to the bedroom while [name] wrote that down. “That sort of tantrum
is beneath him. I was just an infatuation. He doesn’t really care about me
enough to destroy my bed.”
“Mm-hmm.”
“Detective,
tossing around money is easy when you have plenty of it. Destructive behavior
like this requires passion and intensity. It’s messy.”
“I thought you
taught English.”
“That’s right.”
She smiled. “You’d be surprised what literature can teach you about the human
condition. Besides, Ben would never crawl through a window.”
So
can you help me name the detective for my next lighthearted paranormal romance,
The Matchmaker’s Curse? Leave your suggestions as a comment below and the
winner will get a copy of the new ebook when it’s released (in May) plus a
bonus swag package!

Hi Regan,
thank you for the chance at such a great contest.
i think you should name him John Byron Savage. John Byron was my little brother that passed when he was a baby and i've always thought there just weren't enough heros with the name Savage. :D
you could even do a variation J.B. Savage,J.S.Byron etc.etc.etc.

Jace Ashton. I kind-of like the sound of that :) Sounds Sexy!
This is fun,
I like Alexius Saint.....
The name Alexius means "defender" so it would fit with him being a detective.
I hope you like it!

Good morning everyone! Thanks so much for the great suggestions already. You guys are rocking this name thing.
I love coming up with names! Tammy's suggestion of John Byron Savage is awesome. I can see a detective named J.B. Savage. I like that one.
How about...I have always liked the name Casey. Casey Elliott.

Wow! There are some great suggestions here. You're going to have a tough decision to make.
I like the name Clayton Holt, with the nickname of Clay.

I'm loving the suggestions so far. I guess I'll add mine to the mix.
How about Jonathon (Jon) Brown.
It's a little plain and unassuming, so then the character can wow us with his personality and actions.

When I think of a police detective I think of a tough, no nonsense, world weary cynic who has seen it all. I also think his name should be simple and strong, not a name one would find in a historical romance novel. Maybe an ethnic name would be best. A sexy Irish detective could be Jack Boyle. A handsome Italian detective could be Tony Parisi. A hot Latino detective could be Ramon Vega.
If you want a generic name for a tough, sexy cop, what about Marc Allan?
Forgot to leave my email. Would love to win!

I like the suggestion of J B Savage fora detective :D
My own suggestion would be C D Hunter (then later he could admit to having a really weird name like Ceasar Damian hence the need for initials only :D).
I suggest Andrew Gilchrist (aka Drew).

I like Jude Williams or Royce Billings. What an awesome contest! I can't wait to see who wins.

As my own name is Gaelic, I love Irish, Celt and Gaelic male names. It wasn't until I was an adult that my sweet Mom discovered that she gave me the male spelling of the name.
My favorite male name is "Brayden McCann".
I can't wait to read your next release! Thank you for the contest, and wishing you the best...*S*

Hi! Loved the excerpt. :) This is a really fun contest.
Detective Gabriel Knight at your service!
With this name, Gabriel hints at the goodness in him, and Knight shows he also has a dark side...
Glad you liked the excerpt and contest, Nora. This is some of the best fun I've had naming characters.
So, I finally decided! Thank you ALL so very much for the fantastic suggestions.
Tammy's suggestion of J B Savage is the winner!!! I also liked Bryant for his middle name and so Leigh has also won an ebook edition of this book when it's released!
Thanks again to all of you, and to Nikki for always being such an amazing host!
Happy reading everyone!
Regan
